Potential defensive coordinator replacements for Bo Pelini at LSU

For those who haven't seen ths article, written by Jimmy Smith. He gives a little summary of the 9 candidates he believes are at the top of the list.
lsu rivals
quote:
Marcus Freeman:
This is the hottest name in the country in terms of young defensive coordinators who appear to be on the verge of taking the next steps to further their careers. Freeman has been stellar as the DC at Cincinnati while also doubling as the linebackers coach. He is a passionate coach, and at the young age of 34, would certainly be able to connect with his players.
The biggest issue here would be that LSU and Ed Orgeron do not appear to have any ties to Freeman. Will Orgeron want to risk hiring a coordinator he is unfamiliar with after the Bo Pelini debacle?
Ryan Nielsen:
This may not be the hot name, or even one many are familiar with, but Saints defensive line coach Ryan Nielsen checks a lot of boxes. He is considered to be an elite defensive line coach, has a proven track record, played and coached for Ed Orgeron, has an NFL pedigree and is ready to take the next step in his career. He does not have a ton of defensive coordinator experience, last recorded stint at the position was in 2008-2009 at Central Connecticut State. With that said, he has extensive experience as the defensive running game coordinator during his career.
LSU has an experienced secondary coach in Corey Raymond that could assist on the coverage aspect of things, or even serve in a co-DC role, although that situation is generally not considered to be ideal. But it just may work in this scenario.

Wouldn’t that be more of a reason to go for that option? Pelini was a guy we were familiar with and Aranda was not

Freeman or Nielsen as DC
Raymond as our Secondary coach
Bo Davis as our DL coach
and hire a damn LB coach please.

Guilbeau is also saying Freeman is our top target

Exactly.

That's the problem with O and a lot of coaches who get shite canned. They can't keep their egos aside and are too busy keeping the good ole boys network rolling. It's like an insecurity issue with O. He needs guys who has previous ties with instead of taking a shot in the dark. This is ultimately going to destroy him at some point in his career. I'm sure he's asking Pete Carroll right now if Freeman or Mason is the right pick for him.

Freeman is a LB coach and DC. If he were hired would O still go out and hire a LB coach? Wasn’t Aranda filling both duties while he was here?

Also Matt Canada and Joe Brady were not men with past connections to CEO. That poster is full of shite and talking completely out of his arse.

Yes to freeman. That would be an aranda style pull.

Freeman, Nielsen and Lupoi are the ones who look to be the best fits from that list. Some of the others do not seem likely or not the best fits......
I like the list as a whole though, minus one or two.
ETA: not that Lupoi is likely either.

If we get Neilson as DC, we don’t need Davis, we would need a LB Coach. Neilson coaches the DL.

So Jimmy is basically just listing every DC name on the market regardless of whether or not they are being considered. Lupoi, Nielsen, and Golding are 100% not being considered for this job. It's pretty telling that he would include them. Also, I'm a huge fan of Nielsen, unfortunately it just isn't going to be him.

You could have Freeman coach LBs and only have 3 on field coaches for the defense. That would leave room to have QB coach in addition to the OC. Maybe a Munoz (QB) - Calloway (OC)

All coaches do this to some degree. Saban even does it. Coaches, and most people for that matter, like to work with guys they've worked with in the past because there's not a lot of unknowns or time spent figuring out how that person gets things done. Sometimes people overlook talent in favor of familiarity

Dumbass, what about Canada, Faulk and Brady?

O’s wish list:
1. Nielson
2. Brad White
