He is a solid coach at a small program. Just like Curley was (with the benefit of Favre).

Napier was let go by Dabo and never promoted by Saban. He still has some stripes to earn before being considered for a head coaching position at a school like LSU.

THe last time LSU did this...it set back the program a decade.

It probably is an unfair comparison but I still do worry about coaches with no major college HC or coordinating experience.

Whether we like it or not, being a HC at a major school is a whole new ball of wax and is about a lot more than just Xs and Os.

I think the Napier argument can be distinguished from Curley because Curley’s success was 100% dependent on Brett Farve. Unfortunately we found that out later. However, I agree with you that if we want to be super elite we need to get a currently super elite coach and there’s really just one out there right now

LSU's proven strategy is to hire a successful coach from the Power 5 conferences. Why roll the dice on lower tier schools when you don't have too?

Hallman’s only qualification was that he told Brett Favre to keep throwing the ball to Louis Lipps.

is it really? Small school with a recent run of success. Everyone thinking if he can do it at a little school then he can do it at LSU.

Two coaches with national championships passed on him. Yet some LSU fans are screaming for him because...muh he done good as a rajun cajun.

Let him do it at a school within a major conference and then consider him for a marquee position.

He's not saying there is a Farve of ULL. He's saying Hallman was successful at a small school like Napier, with the exception that Hallman did it with the the benefit of Farve whereas Napier hasn't had an all world QB.

And Urban Meyer had 2 years at Bowling Green and 2 at Utah (G5 at the time) before Florida made him HC. So what?

Saban was HC 1 year at Toledo and had a 58% win record 0-3 in bowl games at Mich St before LSU took a chance on him.

Curley's record not close to Napier and did not build what Napier has built the last 4 years...Napier will be Nick Saban's Lincoln Reilly to Bob Stoops in 3 to 4 years unless he has already found a good home..

Look, I don't think Napier is going to be among the top tier candidates for the LSU position. However, you are showing you don't know much at all about him with this statement. Yes, he has experience on the offensive side of the ball, but he is probably best at the non X and O stuff. He totally built the culture of that ULL football program, on and off the field. His attention to detail off the football field is one of his best qualities. I don't think it will be at LSU, but I think he will make one hell of a coach somewhere, and we may look back at him as one we missed.

That's an uninformed statement at best. In 2011 Napier was an analyst at bama and left for a coaching position at Colorado State in 2012. The following year in 2013 Saban brought Napier back to coach WR (a promotion over the previous position) which he did for 4 seasons. The reason Napier wasn't promoted beyond coaching WRs is b/c Saban hired Lane Kiffin to be OC.

OK

At Clemson, he was fired from that spot

Plus 1 year at Arizona state.

Look. He might be fine.

But he is damned sure a reach
