this is likely why nothing has broken there. The easy fix of Matt getting a comparable job did not happen, so here we are on the hook for nearly 3 million in buyout money

If Canada is being "forced" out, LSU is eating 3 mil to keep Aranda.

The $3 million buyout is reduced by anything Canada earns in the future, or could earn with best efforts. And of course, it only happens if LSU out and out fires him.
If that happens LSU is going to decide that with best efforts, Canada could have gotten $800k a year or better at a new job.
More likely LSU will just Mexican standoff him and wait for him to quit on his own. That would trigger his own buyout of 15% to 40% of his remainder (depending on conference and distance of his new job) rather than an LSU payment to Canada. Either way there's little to no chance LSU pays him anywhere near a "$3 million buyout."

Let’s go over moronic head coaching 101-
1. Hire a guy for OC that is known for butting heads with HCs for PC reasons
2. Meddle in his offense and call him out publicly in PC’s (with all of the HC’s offensive experience)
3. Get in physical confrontation with said OC
4. Call him out again in last PC
5. Force him out because of his insubordination
6. Make celebratory gumbo
