If we're not going to recruit well, then we need a coach that can level the playing field with an offense that doesn't require game-breaking talent. Obviously, as I said, it's Chicken-Little-esque and may even be seen as throwing in the towel on the arms race in which our boosters and administration have allowed us to get taken behind a shed and beaten Inglorious Basterds style. However, we can't keep expecting coaches to punch above our weight when it comes to resources.

Either support the program the way our competition (at least, the programs we want to be our competition) does, or get weird. There are no alternative options, IMO.

JF losing to Illinois ******* the programs on a lot of levels. If it leads to less support from the administration, then it hits a hell of a lot harder than just another L and another missed CFP.

I’m legitimately torn. One part of me says, PSU can certainly afford it, so just give the guy what he wants, but make sure the restructured contract has a huge buyout clause so PSU isn’t looking down the barrel of a gun every year…which, this HAS to be a distraction to the team and recruits. So don’t understand the effectiveness of it after a certain point.

The other half of me wants PSU to call his bluff and not really care what he does because we have our own options lined up through back channels.

Do what we need to do to keep Franklin and keep the Class of 2022. We all hope each class will be the one to get it done, but the pieces we currently have committed legitimately are the ones we have been missing consistently

That's not how it works, it's about supply and demand. Saban isn't on the market, neither is Dabo, neither is Day. Everyone knows better than to try for those coaches. Those are crown jewel jobs, PSU is not that (although it is a very good job)

Franklin is by far the best coach that would be willing to leave, hence the demand. Other programs aren't microscopically looking at our our OL looks or how we lost to Illinois, they see what Franklin did at Vanderbilt and then what he did at a sanctioned PSU. That's all still a part of his resume. He's a rebuilder (whether he can get a team to the next level is another question) but programs like USC and LSU could REALLY use that right now.
