I respect that you feel this way. But cmon man. How many schools have a coach that lasts as long as he did. How many schools would have given him the chance to change his ways after the decline LSU has seen since 2011

I think head coaches across the country know what Les wasn't doing and couldn't understand why it had taken so long !!!!

Not quite. He did whip our asses and made us like it, but I just think LSU could and should do better. If he beats Bama then he may just be that guy. Just trying to look in the future of your beloved Tigahs.

Fair enough. I'm personally not sold on him yet, but I'll be damn close if LSU beats Bama and wins out.

ut, there's a reason USC didn't hire him

I bet USC wishes they could have that one back. Coach O would be great for LSU and that's not settling.

The toughest part of our season begins 11/5. If he wins out, he has the inside track for the HC job. Win the SEC Championship? We have our new head coach.

And I agree with that to a point. I really wish they would have taken care of this during the off season. Everyone knew that he needed to be fired, or asked to resign/retire.

It'd be difficult not to be.

LSU could and should hire a proven coach or that "big name." I know Coach O has the players fired up right now and has had them ready to play, but at some point you'd think that may fizzle out.

I see 3 distinct pros for O.
1. He'll keep this top 5 class in tact, and will continue to recruit well into the future.
2. Aranda is a huge asset to this program and will be much more likely to stay than if a new coach was bringing everyone with him.
3. He absolutely loves LSU and Louisiana. I think this gives him the motivation to not "fizzle out".

I also see 3 distinct cons.
1. He's not proven at any level besides position coach and recruiter.
2. Aranda could (and probably will) leave sooner rather than later.
3. I believe Les loved LSU and Louisiana and it's fairly obvious that he "fizzled."

While you obviously can't see the future I think that the pros outweigh the cons for O. If he doesn't cut it and/or Aranda leaves and we can't get a good replacement you're at least still pretty guaranteed to have a loaded roster that coaches would love to get a hold of.

Jimbo is now at the top of my list.
And then Herman.
If those two don't pan out you give O a 4 year deal with a small buyout and see what happens.

If Ed beats bama, he stands a legit shot at winning out. If he wins out, he will be the next coach at LSU. And he will deserve it.

But USC let coach O go at the end of his interim season
... You dont want to go down the path USC did. You can give coach O a small time contract. Lets say 1 or 2 seasons. See how he does. If LSU goes for Herman they will have to sign a 5year contract. And herman will most likely drag the progam under.

Do big name coaches still like money and fertile recruiting grounds? LSU has a lot of both.

If he is and it fails, it will set the program back and it will be over for Alleva.

You dumb! you dont think Coach would put in the time? Sounds like hes been busting his butt to have this teams ready to go for all the games so he has taken over. I have never heard anyone every mention he was a slacker at whatever school he coached at. If anybody will put in the effort needed to get this team to the top it would be coach O. We shall see over the next few weeks how this plays out.

You just answered the question why we should hire O,

"we know he can handle the media and fans and politics of LA.

That's the hardest thing for any coach coming to LSU from another state. Wow you convinced me!!

Does it make more sense to hire Herman who doesn't have the mental make up to get his team ready to beat SMU? Or Jimbo who has top 3 recruiting classes and has the exact same record as LSU right now?
Herman's players know he's leaving and Jimbo's breaking in a true freshman qb.
His defense sucks too.

If you were a big time recruit deciding between Bama and LSU, would you sign with LSU when their coach has a 1/2 year contract?

That equals NO stability. I pray we dont hire O, but if we do, you've got to give him at least 3 years...but with no buyout whatsoever.

Just curious. Outside of LA recruits that bleed purple and gold, who have we been able to steal away from Saban? And which coach out there do you see being able to break Nicky's hold on the recruiting world?

Nobody. Definitely not O. LSU will have to settle for top 5 classes, and beat BAMA with scheme, not talent.
