I hate when people use this as an excuse. How was he asked to "rebuild the program"? David Cutcliffe had a record of 44-29 (.603 avg). Orgeron had a record of 10-25 (.286 avg). O recruited well while he was there and had Hugh Freeze on staff with him. Dont act like Ed inherited a complete dumpster fire there. He flat out did not do good there. Im sure he has learned from his mistakes and improved as a coach but people saying stupid shite like this is absurd.

You can believe one thing for sure...with outside posts like this, you can be 100% sure that the other SECW teams know the fear of a dominant LSU team that will emerge with a CEO at the helm...the fence will be mended around Louisiana and we will contend for the NC regularly! Don't doubt me!

You dont fire a coach with # 1 win %in lsu history, 7th best win % in sec history, and the #1 ooc win % in sec history TO HIRE A POSITION COACH. The people that want to keep Coach O on as fulk time coach has LOST THEIR MIND. this team playing well is more of an INDICTMENT OF MILES than a positive for Coach O. WE WERE SUPPOSED TO BE THIS GOOD. We had 7 projected 1st rd picks. We returned a ton of talent.
If USC, bama, texas, oklahoma, and Notre dame were hiring new HC would Ed Oregon be in any of theor top 5 candidates? Hell no. So why the hell would you want him as lsu's head coach? Just because he had a very talented team playing to their potential?

I won't deny this has been a breath of fresh air, especially in watching the offense. Much more creative, sidelines are more active, coaches seem to be cut loose to do their jobs, etc etc

but I agree completely that long term, O is not the guy. If he's hired, I hope to be proven wrong.

No argument at all there. I agree 100% with everything you said. But, I wouldn't be surprised if Alleva took the easy route and hired Coach O. Even if he loses to Bama and one other team.

If LSU keeps it close into the 4th qtr against Bama, beats Arky soundly and beats UF, Coach O is named head coach before TAM game. A word from someone who knows a lot more about the workings than I do.

If not, then all of the speculation about other coaches stays in play.

Any average coach could maintain an already established program.

Miles proved that and coach O is proving it as well..

My concern is more of 9-10 seasons on talent without an x and o coach. Which is nice but we could be so much more with top 5 classes and the most NFL talent at times

I think with an an elite coach who is an x and o guy on one side of the ball then the sky is the limit for LSU to be a consistent national contender with the talent.

Notice how regardless of Coordinator Alabama always fields great defenses under Saban

Notice how under Meyer Ohio st and Florida always had great offenses

If a hc isn't excellent at an entire offense or defense then it will often hinge on the right coordinator and just look at Arkansas OC many were wanting to hire last week.

Look at Pete Carroll, he was a defensive mastermind and often has Seattle competing on defense alone.

I think LSU could use more of an Urban Meyer brilliant Offensive coach to not only scheme against Bama's great defenses on a consistent basis but I also believe LSU can attract better defensive coordinators than OC.. especially given the talent

Give me a HC with absolute proven qb and scheming abilities like a Fisher or Herman. I don't care about Houston's loss.. they were never thst great. He's still an offensive mastermind and even Saban had ugly losses at times in his first gig. Herman has shown he can scheme with less talent to take it to more talented defenses. Not just at Houston but his work at Ohio St is impressive.

That was one my biggest fears upon learning of miles' firing. I agree it was time for new blood but i am scared as hell that lsu admins will go cheap,

When LSU does beat Bama though it's going to be hard to say no to coach O but I'm just not sure that's going to be elite for us moving forward.

This was still a loaded LSU team at one point favored to win every game. He wins out it will be hard to deny him. He has a loose team with tremendous talent. He's in a tremendous situation.

You don't know which coach will be better for LSU until they have coached at LSU for 3 years. IF coach O can with these games with Miles team no coach will be faced with a tougher task and best they can do is to match it.

Luckily for saban, they didn't hold his failure at Miami against him.

This is like apples and fricking tomatoes .. "they are both red fruits"

you didn't see the Patriots offering him a coaching job after his lousy stint at Miami ...

in general, coaching in NCAA is a step down. and Saban had a history of winning prior to Miami..

I think Jimbo would be the safer choice. Would he do better than Miles, who knows, could LSU get him,who knows. Could LSU get TH? Could he recruit at Miles level, again who knows. Is he ready to compete at a higher competition level?
O is kind of a wildcard. I'd like to get three or all four games more to determine any of this.

No doubt. If he beats Bama he's earned a shot at the job because Miles failed 5 times in a row. He's definitely earned (so far) to let it play out. If he loses to Bama, Arky, and A&M then it's time to look elsewhere.

I agree. Miles needed to go after the A&M game last year in my opinion. He became complacent and thought winning 9-10 games a year was enough and it wasn't.
