LSU is in the same conversation as "big time" programs/jobs in the country along with USC, Texas, Alabama, Florida, Notre Dame, and Ohio State. Coach O is 19-27 as a Head Coach & Interim Head Coach, I believe. Auburn hired Gene Chizik who went 5-19 at Iowa State, and if there wasn't a man named Cam Newton his tenure at Auburn could have been a total disaster. LSU could and should hire a proven coach or that "big name." I know Coach O has the players fired up right now and has had them ready to play, but at some point you'd think that may fizzle out. I can only imagine what these last 3 games have felt like as an LSU fan because Les would have taken it to the wire with Ole Miss and maybe Mizzou. It's a breath of fresh air per say. I just don't think y'all should settle when there could be a coach that is bigger for the program. Could it be Coach O? Maybe. If he beats Bama then that is definitely a topic of conversation. Thoughts?

Ed Orgeron will be the next HC at LSU and I'm all for it.

Coach O was asked to build the Ole Piss program, which he proved he couldn't do. He just needs to maintain the LSU program, which he is proving to be successful at.

I really like him as long as he retains Aranda and hires a progressive , up and coming OC. Great recruiter , great motivator , exactly what we need in a HC. Let's his coaches coach , couldn't ask for better .

Listen, I'm as big of an LSU fan as anyone out there. But here's the thing.....we royally screwed the pooch with the firing of Les. From the fiasco last year, to him being unceremoniously fired 4 games in to the season this year. I don't know if a "big name" coach is going to want to sign up for that kind of shite, know what I mean? I think that the LSU job should be considered a top 5 job. The second issue is that there aren't going to be that many top 5 coaches on the market.

I don't know what the right answer is, but I really am tired of my fellow LSU fans acting like we can just go out on the street and pluck any top 5 coach we want, because our program is a "big time" program.

Appreciate the reasoned post

Coach O is likely in the Top portion of "Tier 2". But, Texas went after big names and ended up with Strong.

My guess is LSU is already talking to agents of guys like:

Herman
Jimbo
Peterson

and gauging interest.

I suspect they have begun looking at others like:

Fedora
PJ Fleck
etc

Just to flesh out Tier 2

I believe they will make a move on a few guys...and IF rejected...then O becomes the best case at THAT time.

Great post. Much appreciated.

I think Ole MIss would have beaten LSU with Les.

The O fans have made a lot of noise. But most of the sensible fans and people around the program agree with what you're saying. On the other hand, a victory against Bama would create a lot of momentum.

People have this fantasy where Aranda and Kiffin will stay by O's side for multiple years. That would last one year tops, and then what?

My thought is let it play out. If he beats Bama or lose a close one and wins the rest he will get the job. I'm for whoever gives LSU the best chance to compete year in and year out. If Coach O makes that happen over the next month then keep him. He will recruit lights out and has already acknowledged the mistakes he made at Ole Miss and seems to have learned from them. That is something Les was incapable of doing for whatever reason. I think he convinced himself he was the reincarnation of Bo.

So because he failed in rebuilding a program at ole miss, that means he isn't a good coach? He learned a lot since then, with some great experience at USC, and LSU. I guess you don't think people can grow. Luckily for saban, they didn't hold his failure at Miami against him.

The only part of your statement that is factually correct.

Alexander and Alleva completely misinterpreted the cheering for Miles at the A&M game last year. They were "thank you" cheers to show respect. Not "please don't go" cheers.

The screw-up was that CLM was retained and the administration believed he would change -- despite him saying at the press conference post game that he was not going to change.

He should have been fired last year. That was the mistake. One that may cost the LSU football program dearly, but we don't know the future right now.

Firing him four games in this year wasn't a mistake. Everyone saw the man's body language. He was defeated, tired and clueless. Everyone needed to move on as it was in everyone's best interest to do so.

I totally get that because the Miles situation was handled completely wrong.

The thing is LSU could get anyone not named Saban or Meyer I think. I think Herman would be good, but there's been all of the Texas talk lately. Jimbo would be good as well , but that ship may have sailed after last years debacle.

we can just recycle and find more great coordinators because they are so easy to find and we can steal them from anyone. And then they'll leave and we do it all over again.
