Yes I do believe the outpouring of support from fans last year had an impact on the decision. Was it the only factor in keeping Miles? Absolutely not, but I can promise you it was weighed into the decision.

OP, are you taking lessons from CNN? They specialize in sensational head lines much like yours. Like him or hate him, Coach O has done nothing but good for the LSU football program to date. Is this the same fan base who bails out of TS at half, those fans who could care less bout the team after only 2 quarters of football? Do you reallly think he's caused this "civil war"?

Don't be a dumbass and take this seriously. I'm referring to the O vs anti-O battles on this board. No, I'm not saying Orgeron is the cause of it. He's done all he's been ask to do and we should be grateful for it. But I would have never predicted the reaction to his possible hiring to be so vitriolic.

In that sense he united the fanbase more than his success has divided it. No matter who gets the job, Les Miles had to go.

I didn't say it was the right decision, hell I was screaming to the rafters to fire Miles and I am a Miles supporter in the fact that I really like the guy as a human being. But I felt his run was over at LSU and it was time to move on literally 2 years ago!!!

That is true anywhere. When Saban was hired, there were more than a few detractors. Saban had won a natty, but prior to that he was a run of the mill coach averaging 3-4 losses a year. He was a three loss guy the year after, he tanked in the pros his second year. Even after his first year in Tuscaloosa there were questions of whether or not they had hired the right guy.
I don't know that any of the guys mentioned in the search would be a bad hire.
Orgeron - using the Pete Carroll approach has proven to be a very good "process" if you will. Local guy, one of the best recruiters in the nation
Fedora - good offensive mind, has recruited the area due to his time at USM
Fisher- the resume is good, develops QB's that are currently in the NFL. Has been at LSU before
Mike Gundy- continued building on what Les Miles started at OK State, plays a wide open offense. Very good offensive mind.
Tom Herman - 2 years as a head coach with excellent result at Houston. Has a reputation as a QB whisperer, OC at Ohio State when they beat Alabama on way to National Championship in 2014
There are negatives to all of these guys as well

Very possible. If Jimbo demands $7 million like is being reported. You would have the $7 plus the $5 for the buyout and on top of that you are paying Les $9 million and the millions the assistants make. That's a lot of dinero.

NO... coach O didn't divide the fanbase, he divided tigerdroppings (which doesn't mean much because EVERYTHING divides TD)

Same with the pro Herman fans but it is much stronger. I remember some of them saying weeks ago that they wanted Herman even if he lost every game for the remainder of the season. I laughed. Turns out they weren't joking.
They make excuses for him, only reference his first season and total record. Strangest thing I have ever seen in college football is the unabashed love LSU fans have for the guy who coaches the Houston Cougars.

I think most will come around if Jimbo is hired. It's beyond that where issues might really come up. Like I can see some serious resistance if Fedora gets the job over O.

for the life of me I cannot understand why Fedora is seen as better than Gundy.. guess i need to do a little more research on him..
