Opinion on LSU Next Coach :Mario Cristobal

He is really low on the radar and not a slam dunk head coach but very solid. It would remind me of the baseball search with Jay Johnson . I don’t think either were first choice but young solid recruiters and track records. I think we swing for fences but end up with a very solid coach that no one is super excited about but no one super disappointed.
Mario Cristobal
33-11 overall at Oregon
21-8 in pac 12
Championships
-2 pac 12 championships (2019,2020)
-Coach of year 2018
-Recruiter of year 2015
-Alabama recruiting coordinator from 2013-2016
-last two years was in Fiesta and Rose bowl
Negatives
-FIU coach from 07-12 Record:27-47
-Not a defensive coordinator or offensive coordinator back ground is recruiter and oline

I think Dabo is the only CEO/Recruiter hire Woody would make, I’d guess he wants to move away from that model if possible. Of course you can’t turn down someone like Dabo tho

Sounds like the offensive version of Coach O.
We need a coach that has a system that he can teach to his assistants and constantly promote from within. This will allow attrition to be alot better staff wise, which will boost recruiting even more.

I think Woodward just wants to move away from the neanderthal model.

Cristobal has a good gig at Oregon.
If he makes a move to the southeast it will be for the Alabama job or the Florida job.

Just what we need another CEO coach completely reliant on coordinators. Moorhead will be another head coach at a smaller school then he'll have to replace him and then we start what we did with O all over again.
Hard pass

The difference is Cristobal isn’t a fricking idiot and can make good Coordinator hires.
O used trial and error.
No matter who we hire, half the team will rely on a coordinator. Compare the average Int eleven each of a OL and DL coach.

We need a HC with Coordinator experience, whatever side of the ball. We should be very gun shy about this considering with what we're dealing with now.

Do not want. Can recruit and can't coach for shite. We just fired a guy like that.

That's a good point about the coordinator background, but he's done a real job at Oregon so far. I would think that he'd like to get back in the SEC though. Knows the territory for sure.

He’s ours. Don’t you dare touch him. Lol

Could be. We will make LR say no first. I do also think Cristobal is high up on list. Good x and o guy and great recruiter.

He's only hired 2 coordinators so far at Oregon.
The ceo model isn't long term unless you have a Venables that won't leave and is content saying.

Oregon has all that Nike money. Would be difficult to get him

A guy like that is the ceiling for LSU. Solid up and coming coach that they can afford with Os buyout. No established coach would even consider coming to a place where they fired two NC winners in 5 years.

Not that I want him, but no it wouldn't be difficult. Cristobal's new big extension at Oregon is half of what Ed makes. Pac-12 schools don't prioritize paying their coaches like SEC schools and they'd bow out if it was a real bidding war.

I’m not saying he is my first choice but I just get the feeling that will be it . I would be say it would be a 7.5 out of 10 hire .
