Where did you get this info

I remember it as well. It was widely circulated at the time. The report that most gave is they contacted him, but he didn't want to leave Clemson while his boys were in school there.

His oldest son Jake "retired" from football earlier this year after sustained injuries. His younger son Tyler is a sophomore still plays for Clemson. Look for him to hit the portal to follow his dad.

Throughout the years he has turned down opportunities to become a head coach. I guess he was just waiting for the right fit

The desperation and obsession hoping Clemson will fail by South Carolina fans is a little pathetic

On the bright side at least they don’t have to pay that dude to keep pulling his pants up.

Let’s be honest, LSU stole Clemson’s soul in New Orleans and they’ve yet to recover…in fact, it’s only getting worse.

Good.

It would be “poetic” if that turns out to be the case considering they got on their roll after beating LSU in that 2012 Peach Bowl.

Clemson will return to their normal spot of being Clemson. They should all thank Les Miles for giving them the opportunity the last decade.

Dabo without BV is going to be Ed O once Aranda and Brady left him.

Timing is awful for sure, but don't underestimate Dabo and the Clemson money machine. They were able to get Venables, they may be able to get someone fairly comparable for $2.0-2.5 million

Same reason Kirby stayed in Tuscaloosa as long as he did. He was good at his job, and had no reason to jump until a cherry gig came along.

Venables was being pushed out of OU by Stoops so let’s not act like Clemson pulled off some coup here.

I pretty much hate the guy and think he looks like Skeletor, but BV was the best DC in the game. So anybody that Clemson gets is going to be a step down. Second is there anybody that could be mentioned in the same breath as BV that would even be willing to go there? I'm not sure there is.

Tops in field DCs are easy to find. With 2.5 M a year, they could get anyone. Bo Pelini even.

It means he wanted the KSU job but was never offered so he stayed on as a DC at Clemson until OU made him an offer.

Supposedly he interviewed and was offered the Kstate job two times over 10 years.

Clemson is in no position to hire a DC right now. The AD went to Miami just a few days ago.

This isn't how it works. They don't need an AD to hire a DC. If/when Radakovich leaves, they will have an acting AD & the school president that could approve a hire. The school president, Jim Clements, is on the College Football Playoff board so there is no reason to believe they couldn't get something done.

Interesting. I had heard he was screwed over for it the last time.

Losing Venables was the end of Clemson's dominance. How he didn't get a head coaching gig sooner is a shock to me. Dabo is nothing more than a glorified Orgeron. It's going to start getting ugly for Clemson over the next few years.

And he is being touted as the heir apparent to Saban.

Miami just fired a HC and hired a HC without an AD.

Dabo can hire and fire without an AD on board.
