Arkansas is a sleeping semi-giant
Ole Miss accumulated the bulk of their accolades pre-segregation and I realize Arkansas' heyday was under Broyles/Hatfield/Holtz. Since I've been alive (1990), Ole Miss has 189 wins. Arkansas has 182, averaging pretty much right at 6. I don't give a frick about Wal-Mart, Tyson, Jerry Jones money, etc. To call Arkansas a sleeping giant is absolutely laughable. Arkansas is what their record says they are. The fact that they consider themselves the clear cut superior program is bizarre.

Ole Miss and Arkansas are one in the same.

Kiffin would have access to a significantly higher level of talent at Ole Miss than Arkansas....

I called them a sleeping semi-giant.

Well, you should.

Their facilities are very good, they have no in-state rival, they have a close proximity to NE Tx, N LA, and Memphis talent. Fayetteville is a fricking incredible town that is routinely on US News and other lists as being a top 10/15 place to live in the entire country. (FTR, I love Oxford and might retire there one day, so I'm not saying it is chopped liver)

It has everything going for it besides recent history. They just suck at hiring coaches. Petrino did have them in the top 5 and rolling before he wrecked his motorcycle.

I think they could easily be a 9-10 win a year program with the right guy, with occasional run at the playoff.

Not saying Ole Miss can't be like that, but I think Arkansas could sustain it for longer and keep a coach longer because of money. Just my opinion. I also think it would be slightly easier to achieve there.

This is probably the biggest upside over Ole Miss. Arkansas really hasn't been able to take advantage of it though.

I get the jokes about Arkansas in general but it really is truly amazing how many people are still so ignorant about NWA.

And with all that going for them, they've been outplayed by the Ole Miss Rebels over the last 30 years. It boils down to the fact that there is seldom any in-state talent, leaving them the scraps of Texas, Oklahoma and whoever else. That's not going to change.

I think it's mostly based on the head-to-head record and Arkansas having 3 trips to Atlanta while OM has zero. But I don't think as many Arkansas fans think that as they did 10 years ago. I mean even Mississippi State has caught up to us now.

Arkansas State would have kicked their arse the past three years. The razorbacks got beat by 4 TDs, against a team that lost to Central Arkansas. This year they aren't even the 2nd best team in a state with only 3 teams.

And even after all that, Arkansas still doesn't have a state rival

I don't think you people understand what the word "sleeping" means

Yes, they've been shitty. I'm saying they are one good coach away from being very damn good for a long time.

You telling me how bad they've been isn't arguing against anything I've said

The Lane Train will be stopping into Fayetteville. It'll be announced Saturday after the C-USA Championship Game.

If they could turn into an Oregon type situation I'd agree. Maybe Arky should tap Chip Kelly to try and do the same thing with Walmart backing instead of Nike?

He's playing both to drive up his price. Basic business tactic.
