North Carolina is firing Mack Brown, sources tell @YahooSports, as @mzenitz reported.

Brown has spoken out publicly recently that he intended to remain as coach.

UNC should be a really enticing job. By far the best current opening.

Does this mean Max Johnson is going to transfer again?

It's sad the winningest coach in UNC history had to be canned

UNC is one of the most underrated jobs out there. excellent recruiting base and deep pockets for a nice collective

Mack should have just bowed out gracefully. Go enjoy the rest of your life

I was on the road a few weeks back and Mack Brown was on this SiriusXM College Sports Radio Show giving such a pompous/long winded interview about how great he was for beating Wake and how much he was looking forward to the 2025 season.

It definitely came off very desperate and after 20 minutes - I was just thinking: "Does he not have something better to be doing during a game week?"

He seemed like a prime broadcast booth coach. Could've been making easy money. Maybe he just really liked coaching.

Kind of surprised they couldn't work out a way to say he was retiring instead of being fired.

They probably offered that and he said no.

I feel like North Carolina would be a good spot to land. Obviously would be second to baskeball but you have resources, a great recruiting area, and a fan base that would be interested if you won. Not alot of pressure either.

butch davis was the only time i felt like they had a chance to get over the hump, and we all see what happened there.

program has a lot of potential, for whatever reason they can't put it all together.
