with all the support "LSU fans" on this board give Orgeron I'm surprised no one wants to talk about Clay Helton, who was the interim coach at USC last year and the HC this year. because, after starting 1-3, with losses to bama in Dallas, @Utah, and @Stanford, has now won 6 in a row after beating #4 Washington last night.

now he just has UCLA (4-6) and ND (4-6) left, but if Colorado (who USC beat) loses to either Washington State (8-2) or Stanford (7-3), he'll probably win the Pac.

but no? no one wants to mention him? an interim who is succeeding as HC?

oh ok.

Two things:

1. His QB switch is what really sparked his run

2. If I'm not mistaken, he's not CEO type like O would be so I don't think the comparison is spot on.

I see what you are saying. Sweeney is a better fit for your comparison. The problem is, as much as O has done for leading through the storm, Aranda is where credit is due imo.

USC fans seem to hate him still.

Ok. First, if Colorado loses he can win the PAC 12 South. Then he would have to beat either Washington or Washington State to win the conference.

Since taking over as the interim head coach he is 12-7. Not exactly the poster boy for the success we want at LSU.

that is just an assumption. O and E have the offense playing very well, and A has little to do with that.

Wait, I thought Helton was the "see what happens when USC doesn't hire Coach O" feather in the cap for O supporters.

Now that's he's doing well, if anything I think that makes O look worse. Both were interim coaches. Helton got the job, O didn't.

Did Clay Helton ever go 10-25 at a school?

Did Coach O beat the top team in his conference?

Helton got some experience running the offense before they pulled the trigger. It may have been a little easier for them. That's the way it happened with Dabo as well. The risk is also a lot easier if the coach doesn't have bad results running a program in their past. Those could be some reasons. I'm not sure.

well you thought wrong. USC hired Sark to replace Orgeron, not Helton, and Sark was a disaster.

Sark was fired last year after going 3-2; Helton went 5-4. Kiffin was fired in 2013 after going 3-2, Orgeron went 6-2.

in large part because USC knew they fricked up by passing on the previous interim.

hes beaten 2 in the last 3 games and number 5 Stanford while at USC.

13-7.

but, to be clear, so we dont count Orgerons record as an interim HC but we do count Heltons?

oh ok that seems fair.

Doesn't Utah have the tie breaker over USC? Utah host Oregon this weekend.
