My nightmare situation would be LSU hiring Grundy “I’m a man!” Any guy that has to speak out like that, isn’t tough enough to be LSU’s coach.

Give me Stoops, Cristobol and Campbell over Aranda. All three of those coaches have done more with less considering where they play and that level of competition.
Stoops won one championship at a blue blood
program, Cristobal coaches one of the top programs in the lowly Pac12, and Iowa State is 6-5.

Meanwhile Aranda just gave Baylor 1 of their 4 all-time wins in the series vs. Oklahoma.

We whiff on Riley, USC hires Aranda, FL hires Napier. In that situation, which I agree is unlikely, we would have to pursue Kiffin right? Or if not Kiffin, then Campbell or Cristobol? The idea of retreating to Stoops or BOB is frightening.

Chances of this being the case are close to zero.
I'm confident we have something ironed out already - and have for a while.

Regarding the progression through candidates....Mal Moore had a tough time hiring a coach in 2007. He turned to Saban multiple times throughout the process. They almost had to settle on Rich Rodriguez before Saban came aboard.

No, I'm not incenuating Saban is coming here. I am saying that sometimes, the big hire has to fall into your lap.

I don't think Napier picks a job until he sees that LSU has their guy.

There is no nightmare situation because we can always pick up Hugh Freeze off the trash heap. He is the worst LSU can do in that he is apparently undesirable due to his belief in the commodification of sexual relations. He is near the best LSU can do in terms of proven coaching and recruiting ability. This is a no lose situation.

OK defense looks better than in previous years. Its a shame LR doesn't have an established QB. I really don't think that Caleb Williams looks that great after watching OK most of the season.

Not arguing for or against either guy, but this isn’t the gotcha you think it is if you compare Oklahoma’s series history against Baylor and Iowa State.

What I saw was Baylor was 3-28 against OU. And they’re not 6-5 this year.

Name realistic names above them

Top P5 coaches don’t switch schools very often

The same ability that resulted in major recruiting violations?

Yep. Those. No one will bat an eye when he pulls in a top 5 class at LSU. It is that he did it at Ole Mrs that drew everyone's ire. Plus we are now in the age of NIL and transfer portals. No more pearl clutching and feigned naivete.

In other words:

I don't think your scenario is at all unlikely. It all depends on timing. If we strike out on Woodward's top choice, whoever that may be, the other top names aren't going to wait around as possible backup plans if someone like Florida or USC offers them the job.

Any scenario that ends with BoB or Stoops is a catastrophe. I just can’t imagine Woody and the admin eat $17M and Woody finally gets to make his dream hire and he ends up with either of those guys.

If Riley stays and Jimbo stays and Aranda goes to USC and Napier goes to UF, you have to go for Campbell or Kiffin at that point. And I’d be pleased as hell with Campbell. If this search took place last year after ISU’s NY6 win, he’d have been at the top of a lot of people’s lists.
