Interesting, whereas I foresee the first three things you stated actually having a legitimate chance at happening. The domino is Riley. If he does pass, then your scenario will come to fruition.

The Nighmare scenario is that we whiff on those first three mentioned and then, instead of pursuing Kiffin or Campbell, we hire someone like BOB or Stoops.

Except in the real nightmare scenario, Campbell is hired by Washington while we are waiting. That would actually be a great fit for him.

The 2016 search was a nightmare situation.

Just know it can’t be any worse and even that, by chance, resulted in a national championship.

Whoa I'm not saying this scenario unfolds because we place too much emphasis in a "home run." We absolutely should be pursuing Riley but we should also be negotiating simultaneously with Aranda and Napier until the Riley (or whoever else) deal becomes concrete. I'm sure Woodward is all over it.

Correct. LSU should be negotiating in parallel. The difficulty arises in the timing. If LSU waits too long for the marquee candidate, or relies on an informal promise to accept which can easily be withdrawn without consequence , other schools can hire the more attractive secondary candidates, leaving LSU with fewer options. As I said, I have far less faith in LSU admins than you seem to.

We whiff on Riley, USC hires Aranda, FL hires Napier. In that situation, which I agree is unlikely, we would have to pursue Kiffin right? Or if not Kiffin, then Campbell or Cristobol? The idea of retreating to Stoops or BOB is frightening.

Give me Stoops, Cristobol and Campbell over Aranda. All three of those coaches have done more with less considering where they play and that level of competition.
Napier should not even be mentioned until these have been fully exhausted. He plays in a conference where there are maybe 3-4 teams annually wirh winning records and that’s counting them playing all those FCS schools.
The Sun Belt isn’t the Mountain west or AAC. It is a high level FCS at best.

This is nowhere near a “nightmare scenario”.

And add Holgerson into the mix.

Or we have a choice of Herm Edwards, Lovie Smith or Willie Taggert.

I doubt woody gets outflanked by someone like Scott Stricklin.

Woody has had one job. He has his guy identified, all but signed and ready to go. This was probably done this summer. He saw the writing on the wall. He saw a coach spiraling into a lack of focus.

You want to know about the coach, look at the plane trackers in September. We may or may not like it, they may or may not be being mentioned here...but I bet you that it is decided.

While not entirely comforting, point is taken

But I do believe that this deal has been done, it is done with a very successful current coach that doesnt want to be named until their season is over or until championships are decided.

The list ain’t Riley, Aranda, Napier

There’s a huge gap before Woody get to those two

There shouldn’t be. Especially if Jimbo is the one creating the gap.
