For years coaches broke contracts and left schools for other jobs, while the players couldn't leave after signing with those respective schools. Now the transfer portal has alleviated this issue, the coaches brought this upon themselves by their own disloyal actions. If coaches are free to leave then so should those student athletes.

It is here and it will be the demise of the game we all love.

One difference, Coaches have negotiated "Buy Outs" built into said contracts. We can debate who actually pays the buyout (departing coach, or New School). So, the school is getting some sort of "Compensation" for the coach breaking the contact.

Are we going to ignore the fact that the players in the professional leagues don’t even have that leverage compared to coaches

Why aren’t you bitching about the NFL or NBA

And most coaches contracts have early termination penalties in the form buyouts when they leave for another job. What do you suggest the penalty for a player leaving should be?

You’re not really wrong

It’s still bad for the game

Repay all the money the university “invested” in their training, nutriton, financial aid, tutoring, etc., etc.

Then players should be locked into contracts that have buy-outs and they will need to compensate the school if they choose to break the contract.

No professional league allows for its participants to just bounce from team to team with no consequence. The portal allows that currently, which is why there will be limitations on it in the future.

College football is a shell of what it was 10 years ago thanks to NIL, the transfer portal and the playoffs.

frick that bullshite.

Scholarships are one year contracts. Schools would have to give guaranteed 5 year full rides to even begin to talk about what you are proposing.

Schools will eventually pull grants in aid for players with NIL deals that provide the means to pay their own tuition. That’s where it’s ultimately headed, but it may take a few years and court cases to get there.

In the meantime the university should be able to recoup costs. The players hold all the cards right now.

No they wont. Let's pretend that LSU says no more scholarships if you have an NIL deal.

You know what Saban will say? You can get a full ride AND earn NIL money here at Bama.

Where do you think those players will choose to go?

But the players aren’t making any money at all

Don’t disagree with the fact that the portal could ruin the game, but that point sucks

they get a lot of monetary value. And with NIL they get to build themself off of the schools brand. That's worth a lot of money.

You think burrow would have been near as big of a deal had he went to ULL?

I love how a free college education, world class training, and a platform upon which to showcase your talent is always dismissed by people as if there’s no value in that for the players.

Monetary value does not equal money

The school is making money on the players, the players are not making money at the school * with exception to NIL

They get prepared for the “next level” of their desired profession more than most of the other students, with elite STEM students being the outlier.

You don’t seem to understand the bigger picture here. There are very few major FBS programs (Universities) that do not accept Federal funding. Congress has already stuck their noses into FBS football.

I wouldn’t expect some turd from a G5 conference to understand.
