Having to break a contract doesn’t mean you’re a free agent. Buyouts aren’t free.

Shoudn't be any buyouts. Honor the damn contract you signed. Coaches get fired they still want their money. It's time colleges tell a coach you cant leave. Honor the contract you signed. Fisher signs 10 year contract with A & M, then he shouldnt flirt with other schools. Fulfill your contract then leave.

For years coaches broke contracts and left schools for other jobs, while the players couldn't leave after signing with those respective schools. Now the transfer portal has alleviated this issue, the coaches brought this upon themselves by their own disloyal actions. If coaches are free to leave then so should those student athletes.
And you managed to put out yet another stupid post

Then players should be locked into contracts that have buy-outs and they will need to compensate the school if they choose to break the contract.

That's fair. A scholarship is a 1 year offer; make it a 1 year contract based on the academic schedule.

Early enrollee is contractually obligated to stay at school from spring through fall, a fall enrollee has to stay through spring.

And CFB will just become a lesser version of the NFL or semi pro football. No loyalty, no pride, just me me me, give me my money. This will be the downfall of the sport.

I harken back to the days (not so long ago) of players like Glenn Dorsey who loved their school, played with pride, AND STILL signed a big contract with the NFL and made lots of money, all
while playing your senior year and winning a NC.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

When the P5 break away to form their semi-pro league, I'll enjoy watching the G5 play college football.

This stuff always trickles down too. How long before high school kids start getting NILs and hopping school zones for the $

So if I told you I’d give you $10k or a new Mercedes Benz, you’re going to take the $10k, right?

I mean, it’s not money if you take the Benz.

God I hate this analogy.

It's moronic for many reasons.

Coaches have contracts that they have to abide by and financial penalties are often included. Players have a "contract" within the NCAA rules that they have to abide by.

Coaches are in their careers and work for decades. The average coaching tenure is longer than NCAA athlete eligibility. Brian Kelly was at Notre Dame for 12 years. You comparing him leaving to a player leaving after one year?

College football has actually become worse then the NFL, with the current transfer portal situation. Wide open free free agency whenever you want. At least in he NFL you have multiple year contracts to create some stability. Recruiting is fast becoming meaningless.

And most coaches contracts have early termination penalties in the form buyouts when they leave for another job. What do you suggest the penalty for a player leaving should be?

Therein is the root of the problem, no penalty at all. It used to be delayed eligibility.

No professional league allows for its participants to just bounce from team to team with no consequence. The portal allows that currently, which is why there will be limitations on it in the future.

Exactly, and the limitations need to be put into place immediacy. Like yesterday.

Why should a college athlete be treated similar to a person with a job? Are we all supposed to stay with our current employer forever also?

This is such horse shite and one sided. Players for years have left for the NFL their third year breaking their contract. Why don’t you bring up that. Oh I know to dumb to think about it that way.

Why even have a coach sign a contract? It isn't worth the paper its written on.

How would you like it should Brian Kelly announce he's leaving LSU one year from today, after only fulfilling 1 year of his 10 year contract? Why should he or any coach be released from their contract? Why not enforce the terms of the contract?

Of course it is. Why would you say this?

I would not care. What does the contract say about that?

Why should he or any coach be released from their contract?
Uh, because the contract spells that out.

What makes you think they aren't? Do you think Orgeron enforced his or not?

Fans don't come to see coaches

Have players switch teams every year and see how long that lasts with fans

College football is about to go the way of NASCAR. Problem is, the corporations have all the money to influence the product and the consumers of the product (you and me) get the shite end of the stick. Too much corporate influence has ruined the game day experience and the product on the field.

Not how that works. For coaches, this is actually their jobs, you know their livelihood. For the AMATEUR ATHLETE it is not. Should I highlight AMATEUR ATHLETE.
