Fresh start with someone from the offensive side of the ball and ready to change the culture, consistency and overall feel.

Connection with Howard

Top recruiter for LOUISIANA and the local high school coaches really like him and his approach with recruiting.

Finally. For everyone saying things like “well he’s coaching at ULL” or “it’s the sunbelt” Yada yada yada

Does anyone remember Jim Tressell? He was at Youngstown state before going to Ohio State and basically re-established that program and put them at the top with 2 NC appearances and 1 National Championship.

I really feel with Napier we are looking at the “next” big thing in college football and a commitment for the next 12-15 years with a championship program done the right way. GEAUX TIGERS

Whew buddy, you're about to be roasted by the ULL haters around here.

They think LSU is too good to hire a coach from another in-state program, no matter his fit or coaching abilities

I’d love to see Naiper or Aranda! Think both would be long tentured winning coaches. Naiper would need a top notch DC and Aranda would need a brilliant OC

I think you may be correct, and I’m not really excited.

Speaking for myself, Napier would be way down the list of coaches, That said he may be a great coach one day, I just don't think LSU should be a school to experiment on "up an comers".
We have the money and resources to get the best proven coach available and that is what I believe Woodward is doing.

Napier needs to take a job in the Big 12 or equivalent if he is offered.

I for one despise usl but have no issue with hiring their coach
I think he has a leg up on the others with already established relationships in state. He may need some out of state recruiting to get the linemen we need just don’t grow enough of them here

Top of my list once you get past unrealistic options

Definitely prefer over jimbo

Saban was not a proven commodity

All things are relevant to resources available and he has done well with very limited resources and hardly any fan support

Tressel won 4 1-AA national championships. He was winning at the highest level where he was. Napier hasn’t even won the FunBelt. NO COMPARISON.

This is true for every coaching candidate.

There's probably 98%+ probability that he's coming here. That said, you never pick a coach based on a single player.

Unprovable.

Tressel won 4 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS at Youngstown. Napier has 1 could have participated in the Sunbelt conference championship game co-championship with a team with a better record that beat them at ULL. Totally the same.

FWIW, I don't have a problem with Napier as a way back fall back. However you dirty nappy cult boys are really annoying.

Saban had been a power 5 dc for a number of seasons one of which they won the big ten, a NFL dc, head coach at 2 different programs one of which was power 5 and had a group of five conference championship and a top 10 finish in a P5 job.

Enlighten me where Napier matches up with that.

As for the Jim tressel mention sure he was FCS but it was a decade long run with multiple national championships.

Napier hasn’t even really won his conference yet.

I love how y'all continually compare him to some of the best coaches in college football history, it's fricking wild.

Napier is the guy . He can get them back to basic disciplined football . He can recruit . Young and energetic . Lives here and understands the culture and embraces it . If they have the athletes and a QB who isn’t somebody’s son , but legit on his own , we can easily win 10 games per year .

Napier hasn't done near as much as the people he's compared to on a consistent basis. He was an OC at Clemson for one season and was let go. He was a wide receivers coach at Bama for three years and was consistently passed over for the OC job by Saban. It took him almost a decade to get another chance to be an OC and that in a Co-OC roll. Then he ends up at ULL and is winning but hasn't won the Sunbelt yet. I mean......what is so impressive about that resume? I'm genuinely curious what is so appealing about the guy looking at his past. His offense isn't even that good where he's at now, so what makes anyone think it would work in the SEC? He has very little experience actually running an offense anyway.

ETA: I don't dislike the hire because he's coaching at ULL, but more because I don't see the appeal nor do I see what makes him so special to people on this board.

He really needs to take a P5 job. If he had the record at a P5 program that he has at ULL he would probably be high on the list. Woodward is not hiring Napier unless he gets turned down by a lot of coaches first.

Ok, so Tressel is the comparison.

Even if you equate a Div 1-AA National championship to a Sunbelt Conference championship, Tressel still has Napier beat 4-0. Tressell won 4 Div 1-AA NCs and played for another 2, and we're waiting on Napier to win one Sunbelt conference title.

To blame all his detractors on an anti ULL bias by LSU fans is stupid. A large majority of LSU fans can give a rat shite about ULL, in any sport. That's a fact you can take to the bank. My concern about him is that this is quite possibly the most important HC hire in a long long time. Practically every team in the West is getting better & better, not to count more & more teams on the national level. LSU can not take a risk at this point in time of its program, & Napier would be a risk. The fact that his own fans don't show any support for him is telling. ULL's attendance is horrible.

How'd Tressel turn out? He ran that program into the ground. Hiring someone with connections to a former lousy qb who's kid is unproven at the college level is ridiculous. Cmon man
