Cam proved that one player can change everything. I think Mullen knows this.
How many times does a "Cam Newton" come along? This year that was a solid, but not spectacular, foundation at AU. Cam took them to the next level. A player like Cam can take a team like that to the next level. However, one player does not make a program.

Damn.
He's working MSU. I mean I think Dan Mullen is a hot commodity and may be the next great coach.
He's 13-11 though (granted with an under talented team) who "best" year was beating the down SEC east.
Doesn't sound like he's worth 3 million yet

it's a competitive world. ya can't blame a coach for taking care of himself and his family. if the msu alumni really want a competitive program, they need to show it and pony up. they may not have a situation like this for a long, long time. they need to jump on it. and frankly, i hope they do.

This part...
quote:
Mullen has agreed to terms on a new contract with State
however the deal will not be signed until after the bowl game. .................. Mullen has expressed interest in staying at MSU if certain conditions are met. These include big money for himself and his assistants. Mullen will make around 3 mil per year. He also said he would sign a 6-8 year deal if several things were done. Some of the things he wanted include an indoor facility and other facility improvements. He also wanted guaranteed money in contracts for he and his assistants.
...means this part...
quote:
There has been an offer sent from Florida...
...is false.

per MSU insiders he was asked by Foley if he would accept if offered, Mullen said he would have to talk to State officials 1st, Foley didn't like this and said UF will be moving away from the spread. Mullen felt MSU was committed to him with the 3mil, facility improvements, full control of football ops, etc. and is going to sign the contract in 21 days.

an AD's ego being insulted that a coach didn't jump on his sort of unofficial offer?

It's going to be Bob Stoops.

An AD they would not run the spread anymore? Really?

yeah good luck pulling him from OU

Not as hard as you think it would be. From OU to Notre Dame, yeah. From OU to Florida...now that's a horse of a different color altogether.

Stoops must be angling for a raise.

the only thing that UF has over OU is a better home state recruiting base but OU pulls in all kinds of kids from Texas so it's sort of moot.

I don't know where they are getting this from, but almost every source on every Gator site has said that Mullen has never been a target, this year or last year. Almost immediately following the Meyer announcement, the insiders said do not expect Mullen to be involved.
Mullen does not have the best reputation in Gainesville.

From Joe Schad's most recent tweet, it sounds like things must not have worked out with Stoops:
"Florida buzz today focused on Harbaugh, Petersen, Edsall, Muschamp, Sumlin, Fedora"

I won't claim to know the mind of Bob Stoops, but you have to look at it this way: The Big 12, as a conference, is slowly going down the crapper. Soon, they will be as irrelevant as the Big East in terms of conference clout. With Florida's built in advantages in terms of conference affiliation and recruiting attractiveness, where would you want to be coaching over the next few years, the SEC or the Big 12-2?

I think Peterson might get it. He has been talking to UF.
