allow me to help this thread out:
1. True coaches cant have more than a 4 yr deal with the state- but they can indeed have an extended deal with the Bulldog Foundation- a private entity that pays 3/4 of the coach's salary.
2. State got about 30 million in a gift from a booster that passed away 2 years ago. They havent spent really any of it- yet.
3. Yes, Foley got pissed when Mullen didnt say yes when he was informally asked if he would accept the job.
4. Mullen loves Starkville and so does his wife. Her parents have even bought a house there now. He has asked State to committ to him with the things he has asked for, and in return- he will committ to State.
5. If he builds a good program at State and stays 10 years- he will still only be 48 and could step into a top program for another 10 years. He's still a young guy. And he will be a well-paid young guy with a great salary and less pressure
9-10 wins at Fla, Bama, and LSU keeps your job, but people still want more. Slide back to 8 wins and they want you gone.
8 wins a year at State gets you as popular as the Governor

Yep. Both sides will be sticking to their stories, nothing wrong with that. Bottimline is Mullen will be at MSU for a long time.

Sorry, I finally talked to my guys in Florida. I was wrong, not in what I was hearing but in it's veracity. Mullen will likely never coach at Florida and has not been offered the job. They wants Stoops and if he says no then Peterson.

Yeah, Petersen has seen the mountain top with Boise. They are going to drop off next year.

i can't see peterson taking the uf job. seems like he's pretty well entrenched as a west coast guy and i simply don't believe he wants to pressure of the uf job. maybe he'll take a pac10 job down the line, but i will be shocked if he ever ends up in the sec.

Peterson meeting has laredy happen in New York (maybe) I think tht is what he said. Stoops agent already has offer. I think it was deadline too. If he rejects they are going straight to Peterson. They deny ever making Mullen any offer at all.

Nice thought...but if they ever put together a couple of 10 win seasons and win the SEC their fans will be just like everybody elses.

I sorta see what you are saying, but right now without the added hurdle of a championship game, Stoops has it that much easier to make a BCS bowl or even the Championship game. All he has to do is beat Texas, which look easier now also.
Of course, does have the little problem of not being terribly productive in the BCS bowls. Stoops just does not do well when matched with an opponent that has 5 or so weeks to study his team.
