I don’t know if it will work out, but it’s the best move they could make. I imagine the buy-out is really low in case they realize he’s in over his head. But they have a lot of talent returning and he’s a solid defensive coach, a good OC and he could do okay

Had to be done. We don’t have an AD but honestly I think he can be pretty successful. Our defense under him has performed way over its head

MSU doesn't have a permanent AD right now and they obviously didn't expect to be looking for a new HC. It's probably the most reasonable move they could make to try to preserve some level of stability in a very uncertain program at the moment. If it ultimately doesn't work out then you reassess once there is more stability in the department.

Four years seems like a lot. Hopefully the buyout is low

I am ok with this if they make a good hire for DC and OC.

Anything less will be used against him in recruiting.

Had to pull the trigger quickly as other schools were already trying to get State players in the portal. Plus signing day is next week.

It is a good move for MSU. He is a good coach and will provide stability for MSU as they heal and also look for a new AD

This is the smart move today considering the situation, especially with an interim AD. Kick the can down the road, keep some continuity and recruiting intact. Players will be more likely to stay if things aren’t radically changing. Then the permanent AD can take their time and make a decision in a year or two if it doesn’t work out.

Solid move for them in these trying times.

It’s never a good idea to hire someone you would not ordinarily hire, just because of timing and circumstances.

Unless Arnett was the guy they would’ve hired under normal circumstances, then they shouldn’t hire him now.

I think it’s a horrible move. He’ll be fired in two years.

I don't hate it. It's really the only move they could make. It's just a really difficult situation that I wouldn't wish on any team, school, fanbase, or city.

That’s objectively false. There was nothing preventing them from hiring someone else.

I get it, but it’s a hire of convenience. Those rarely work out long term.
