He would have just as much if not more leeway than he has had with UCLA and could make them decently competitive by their standards with some good recruiting classes. It certainly wouldn’t hurt to give him an interview

UCLA would owe him $9m in buyout money.

He's 59, looks 75, I wonder if he will retire now.

Back when he took the UCLA gig, the word was that part of the attraction was that with LA being so celebrity-packed he could somewhat fly under the radar in public.

That won't be the case in Starkville.

Chip has been in check cashing mode for a decade at this point.

Why? Didn't he get fired from his last two jobs?

I want some young up and comer that could build something. I didn't know the Sumrall guy from Troy until all of this started but he's intriguing. We are at a "roll the dice" state at this point. I think we get a pass on firing a 1 year coach due to the circumstances around the hire. People saw our team and I don't think anyone is shocked that we fired a guy less than a full season. It was eerily similar to Croom wanting to come in with that "West Coast offense" and had no west coast players. He should have played to our strengths and slowly move to his game through recruiting his type of players. Instead, he threw the baby out with the bath water.

I think he could complete what Mike Leach started—using a gimmick offense to make MSST reasonably competitive in the SEC.

In the NFL. He has been a solid college coach but he isn’t really a SEC guy. He has more west coast connections

Seems like Kelly has no interest in CFB anymore. He certainly isn't recruiting worth a damn and he isn't Mike Leach (who could always overcome recruiting through his playbook). They can do better, tbh.
