Judge, 38 is a former MSU player and GA. He was Special Teams coach at Bama from 2009-2011 winning two rings under Nick Saban. He then moved on to the Patriots where he has served as Special teams coach and this year Wide Receivers Coach under Bill Belichick and won 3 super bowl rings.

Might not be a catchy flashy candidate but all he has done is win and learn from the two best football minds of the last quarter century.

A guy that has never been a HC and only been a ST/WR coach? Would be a very risky move, to say the least.

Assistant Special Teams coach***

Judge was not an on the field coach at Alabama. Bobby Williams was the ST coach

If Bill Belichick thinks he's going to be a future NFL coach why not take a shot on a high risk, high reward type of guy.

Saban thought Houston Nutt was the right guy to take over LSU when he left.

These guys aren’t always the best judges of that kind of stuff

Risky, but If I’m a MSU fan Is be much more excited about this guy then the list of retreads I read the other day.

At schools like MSU (Mizzou also) you’re two choices are to hire someone who has failed elsewhere or someone with little to no experience but upside.

Give me the second option every time

Go for it. If you stepped back and it was OM in this identical position and hiring the identical person you would laugh your arse off. As everyone should here.

I'll take a home grown guy in a heartbeat. Judge actually wants this job. Better than someone who might use it as a stepping stone who isn't fulling invested.

It sounds better than rolling out Gene Chizik or a triple option coach.

It’s not any kind of HR of course, but that was never going to happen. It’s not like the guy is 60 and a career assistant. He’s young and has some upside.

Every hire made in the SEC this year has a significant amount of risk and there are no sure things

Because you're immature. JoMo was a homerun hire to everyone before he stepped foot on campus. That turned out well. Truth be told, you don't know anything about him, good or bad.

Or similar to Odom and Luke.

You don’t really know, but you’re not going to hire some sure fire slam dunk anyway so why not try to get the next coaching star BEFORE he turns into that...because once he does you’ll never get him

We essentially did this with Dan Mullen, so it's not inherently unprecedented at State.
