A lot of people are underrating Riley. Does anyone realize how tough it is to win in Corvalis? What is Oregon State's winning percentage in its history? Bad. And it's even more difficult with Oregon dominating and the difference in facilities.

I don't think a lot of people know all he has done either. Coached not just every level but both sides of the ball. USC offered him head coach, OC AND DC at different points. He coached DB's for the Saints. Was HS QB, but played DB at Alabama.

He can coach.

This. Oregon State is damn near impossible to win 7 games at considering the facilities adn location.

He has done a pretty damn good job finding 3 star gems from CA and TX. He is also active in the CA JUCO ranks. Exactly what Nebraska needs.

The only bad part is he will be 62 when next season starts. He'll be there 5 seasons max IMO.

I want him to bring in Frost as the OC.

Its time for Scott Frost to come back home to Nebraska.

It's OSU. OSU was never gonna win the conference. Ever. No matter if Nick Saban was the coach.

Thats where I am hopeful. He has terrible resources at OSU. at NU he will be able to do what he wants and hopefully he transforms this program. he won't be here for more than 15 years (if he does good) because he is old.

That seems like a terrible hire. Hell he was probably only one more losing season in Corvallis from getting fired.

Doubt it, what was OSU football before he got there? From 1972-1996 they most games they had won in a season was 4. Riley had that job for as long as he wanted.

Frost needs to cut his teeth with some head coaching experience.

Maybe, but my God man, how long were they willing to sit in Oregons shadows and be happy with 7-5.

They said earlier his honeymoon at OSU was long over and that they were basically ready for change.

I don't think it is a bad hire. He has had success. If Serna can kick extra points, he beats LSU at Tiger Stadium in 2004.

I think the Riley hire is very comparable to:

-LSU hiring Miles from OklahomaSt
-LSU hiring Saban from Michigan St

Well I think they are stuck in Oregon's shadow unless they have a Phil Knight type of donor that I don't know about.

OSU is what? The 8th or 9th best job in the Pac 12? They are playing against a stacked deck.

I'm shocked. He wouldn't take the Alabama job in 2003, his Alma mater, but leaves for Nebraska? The reasoning them was that his wife was from Oregon. He's also 61 years old now. This is a head scratcher.

Wasn't completely surprised he turned down the Bama job or turning down the USC job before they turned to Sark but this is absolutely shocking he leaves for Nebraska.

This is such an underwhelming hire. This is a huge contributing factor as to why the B1G has been down recently. How is hiring Mike Riley going to make recruits say "wow, i want to play at Nebraska"??? Husker fans have every right to be pissed right now, i know i would be! Mike Riley....really?

I don't think he is a bad coach, but they fired Pelini for this. If they fired Bo they needed to make a bigger splash.

And wow...didn't realize he was 61.

Frost already turned down that lateral move to stay at a school with a pulse. Why would he change his mind now?
