Don't know why he'd even accept the Temple job in the first place. That would've been more than likely a career killer.
Golden and rhule used it as a stepping stone.

In the Temple-Duke bowl game, the commentators kept preaching about how loyal of a guy Manny Diaz is. I guess you’re right:
quote:
Manny is loyal to Manny.

Phony and no integrity

This dude is a sleaze. Left after one year as DC at State to go to Texas. Can’t blame him for that, but he gets canned, Mullen hires him back in 2015, and Diaz claims he’s here for good and ain’t leaving for a while. So, what does he do at the end of the year? Leave for Miami. Now, I had no problem with him leaving, it was the lies he spewed about saying he was staying a State for a long time. Just don’t say anything like that if you can’t honor it.
Also, I wonder if Manny knew this might happen. Why else would he stay and coach Miami’s defense in the fricking Pinstripe Bowl, instead a going full in 100% on the Temole head job? I could see if they were playing in the CFP, or maybe a NY6 Bowl, but being 7-5 and playing 7-5 Wisconsin in the Pinstripe Bowl seemed odd he stayed.

This is one of those where I feel like both sides of this discussion are true. Manny is a selfish guy, but its also his dream job, his dad was mayor, etc.

I agree with everything you are saying but lets be truthful here. It's Miami and he is a Miami guy. I don't thing character is high on their list of values.
Isn't he an FSU alum?
I would hold someone to account for leaving a job after two weeks, but maybe less so if it was his dream job that suddenly opened. I don't think anyone can compare the Temple and Miami jobs, but if he's such a Miami guy, why'd he go to FSU?

Don't feel too bad for Temple. They get 4 mil for basically free out of this.

really don’t know how everybody else feels about this, but god damn I think it’s so sleazy to accept a job then back out 2 weeks later for a better job.
Why do we hold coaches at a different standard than the rest of the country? If any joe plumber out there gets a job then a better offer happens two weeks later and he left no one says a thing.

Basically this. Can we really feel bad here? Miami will buy Diaz out, so it is all on the up and up per his contract.
And about Diaz leaving, wouldn't you? You'd be dumb to turn down that kind of coin from your hometown school. It is one thing for changing jobs when we are talking a 10-15k difference on a 80-100k salary. It is an entirely different meaning when he will potentially make 1.5-2 times his Temple salary at Miami, not to mention the resources available at Miami compared to Temple. Even if he sucks, it will still be life changing money he could set his family up on. A major P5 HC job is a once in a lifetime opportunity, career and money wise.

Diaz comes from the Skip Holtz coaching tree

Sleazy and Manny Diaz? No way ...

Temple signees should be let out of their LOIs with no penalty, considering Diaz was hired before signing day and is now gone 2 weeks after signing day.

Isn't the the ex-defensive coordinator for UT??
My son tells me they used to refer to him as Coach Iaz - no D.

Wouldn’t count on it. My wife grew up with his wife Stephanie. This isn’t a CSB, the first time I met him was at his wedding, so I don’t claim to “know” the guy but he seems to have been very good to Stephanie and his sons. Believe me, he knows how this looks but can’t turn down the opportunity.
My wife (no pics, you heathens) and Stephanie don’t talk football since the UT job went sideways. They did before when he was at MTSU and MSU, though.
If he can lock down Glades and North Miami, they will be pretty good in just a few years. This is really bad news for FSU fans (like my wife).
