Earlier Sunday night we had been told Miami was seriously considering Manny Diaz as its new head coach, and now sources say the deal is done. After an 18-day stint as Temple’s head coach, Diaz will return to his home town as Miami’s head coach.

I really don’t know how everybody else feels about this, but god damn I think it’s so sleazy to accept a job then back out 2 weeks later for a better job. Very low character move from a guy who’s about to preach character to a bunch of young guys and their families on the recruiting trail

It's worked out really well in college basketball with Chris Beard.

It is crappy, but I think he had to take the PR hit here if that's his dream job.

He had no way of knowing that job was going to open up. If he did he wouldn't have left in the first place.

Never have been impressed with Diaz. Don’t think he’ll do well as a HC.

It’s his calling card. Manny is loyal to Manny.

He did two different 1 year stints at State as DC.

Terrible hire. LSU-esque with the way they went about this.

Why not interview Babers, Kiffin, etc when you know you could get Manny to commit at any point if others fall through?

Makes no sense.

Don't know why he'd even accept the Temple job in the first place. That would've been more than likely a career killer.

I agree with everything you are saying but lets be truthful here. It's Miami and he is a Miami guy. I don't thing character is high on their list of values.

Great points. I don't think Miami's AD Blake James is a good one. This is a scared hire with no foresight in my opinion.

Can you though? Every day he's at Temple it just looks worse. Quick turnaround and they can at least slip it in under the radar. Also salvages recruiting for them.

The last 4 Temple HCs before he was hired all got hired away to P5 jobs. It's actually been a pretty good stepping stone as of late.

What about the recruits that just signed. They should have the right to change their commitment! This is why I’ll always side with the players sitting out bowl games. For the players its supposed to be all about loyalty and the team. For coaches and literally everyone else involved it’s about money and about themselves.

Wow, they had him locked and loaded. Must have been some major maneuvering. New coach is better for local public relations.
