In what world is a co defensive coordinator the same as someone who solely holds the title
In every world. He is the defensive coordinator. Not an "assistant defensive coordinator" as this guy spun it.
Nielsen was also a Recruiting Coordinator for years at more than one spot. AND has been absolutely elite as a position coach in college and pros.
Again, that does not mean Jones won't be good. I have said repeatedly he might be awesome as a lot of the results are out of a position coach's control.

But this is a completely out of nowhere hire. He wasn't a name that was talked about at all, by anyone. He's not a guy with ties to O or LSU or anyone even on the radar. The only somewhat tie is that he coached with Aranda at Wisconsin for a year. The same Aranda O seemed to be fine with leaving because he didn't love Aranda's style of defense.
Just because he wasn't on this boards radar doesn't mean it was out of nowhere. O and Aranda spoke and went through a list of guys that would fit well at LSU. That's how Jones got an interview to begin with.
The way I see it, O did the same thing on defense as he did on offense. Hire a guy who can help replicate the 2019 staff. Whether that works out or not remains to be seen but it's not like Jones' name came out of a hat randomly. He also knows the Joseph's from his louisiana days as well.

yeah with Nielson, he has much more recent CFB success and is vastly superior as a positional coach
most importantly, the difference is recruiting. Nielson was a monster recruiter
Jones is a blank canvas. you can make him as good or bad as you want to be

going back to a 2-gap, 3-4 base? that's going to make a lot of people melt

Melting about Jones but not Peetz or Nielson?
Peetz matches the image of what LSU did with Brady which was a MONUMENTAL success.
Nielson, right or wrong, is a guy that many questioned but who many hoped was on the front side of how to defend these modern offenses. This seems to be supported by the style and scheme in New Orleans. Having said that, it's inaccurate to suggest Nielson was viewed as a homerun and that there wouldn't have been criticism. That's wrong.
Jones isn't being sold as a tactician. He isn't being sold at all. People have no idea what we are getting. The most common story about him is that he has paid his dues in the coaching ranks. That's about as week of a narrative as you can get.
In reality, nobody knows what we are getting. All we know is that his resume doesn't really support this job from a "turn key" standpoint. He'd be viewed as a someone ready to take the leap. So, he better have a real novel understanding of the game.

I agree! Nielsen was questionable too, but our fans were groveling at his feet
That's simply untrue. The fans were groveling at Freeman's feet (you know the black guy).
Nielson was a name that popped up after we lost out on Freeman. And, it wasn't 100% support unlike you are saying.

Guys....its ok to debate things with someone you disagree with, but never give time to a coward like the OP.

I think you mean (The guy who had run a top 10 defense this year and held UGA to 24 with CUSA talen)
And I liked Nielsen too. But freeman would have been a great hire if he was white asian Mexican Martian etc...

You know you were implying racism. So either you are trolling or too much of a bitch to actually speak your mind. Either way, you are a clown.

I mean "the black guy". My point is that this was never about race.
In fact, the thing I like most about Jones is that he's black. But, it's not going to override that his resume really doesn't support this hire. I just wish there was more to point at to make me confident in this hire.
The hope is that Orgeron is looking beyond the resume to find a real great coach. People are skeptical. We will see.

I meant more personality wise. In other words, how he thinks about the game, how he would utilize certain players on the team, and what he would do in certain situations. I don't think he will stick to a 3-4 or 4-3. Probably run a multiple or hybrid scheme.
For me personally, the thing I hope this guy has is the ability to get the best players on defense in a place where they can make plays. I know that sounds cliche but Aranda was good at this, utilizing the talent available instead of trying to force talent in to a position they weren't comfortable in or didn't understand.

Sounds to me like you’re trying to race bait

Dude you’re a racist lying piece of shite that post of your screams race baiting

I keeping pointing this out, the OC has Ensminger that’s still on the staff. Who does Jones have on the staff. LSU doesn’t need a work in progress coordinator with no help from a former DC on the staff.

Shouldn’t have gone with Nielsen on this one. Nielsen is one of the best young coaches in the NFL with ultra success.
O had his man then blew it when he didn't follow through with common sense thing do. (Make a courtesy call to the Saints HC)
Anybody that thinks this isn't the case is delusional and naive.
Sean nixed the entire deal because his ego was hurt when O didn't call him first to talk about hiring Nielsen. The entire contract issue could've been worked out in one meeting..........
