Maybe it works for his life.

He gets to have a life with his family and do what he loves. Heavy is the head that wears the crown.

I took a setup at work a few years ago and the pay is pretty good but if the wife worked I wouldn't have. I had a damn nice gig going where I was and could leave the work there for the most part. Could have retired in that job.

Opted for better retirement and more pay bit came with extras.

If I had the right setup or had invested and not had so many medical bills to crawl out from under I would have stayed with what I was doing and live the dream as they say.

I respect the shite out of him for that.

Matt Campbell is an idiot who does not learn from history. Look up Dan McCarney former Iowa State coach who had similar years and actually beat Iowa for like 5 straight years. He didn't move on when he had the chance. Then the Clone fans started wanting more. They wanted double digit wins and conference titles. They ran Danny Mac out of town to take the program over the hump to the next level. Look how that turned out.

Oh, and Campbell won't be beloved by an entire state. Iowa is a Hawkeye State. The Clones are the favorite team in Story County but that's it.

Dude is an idiot to not get the F out of Ames when he's hot.

people act like he's putting his time in at 80k to get that 120k salary one day.

He may be biased, but there's some truth to what he was saying.
If the narrative is that you're a good coach, even at a place like Iowa state the expectations are going to start going up.
This year was his most experienced team and it didn't go the way they wanted. Let's see how he rebounds next year.

Some people just can't understand how he's content with 4 mil per year

I actually respect him more for this. In a league now where guys like Kelly up and leave a team that has a shot at a NC run for money that's quite a commendable thing for Campbell. It's actually refreshing to see guys like Campbell/Fickell tell everyone NO you don't get that very often anymore. Money obviously isn't everything to these guys. That's the kinda the coach you want. I don't even think Riley met with his players to tell them he was leaving.

Kelly asked his players to show up for a 7am meeting after the news already broke

Who wants to go to a school where you are fired for not getting the injection? Washington is a shite job. They will have to hire a high school coach if they are lucky.

I've seen it happen before and provided an example from a couple of their coaches ago.

Besides, why would I want Campbell to leave? He's never beaten Iowa and his best team ever lost again to Iowa and went 7-5. Best team ever with a top 10 preseason ranking and they went 7-5. Maybe that's why he can't get another job?

If he's turning down jobs it doesn't sound like he can't get another.

I read some Washington poster claim Campbell was never offered. So don't know how true this story is anyways.
