My wife’s uncle is a big booster at ISU. I’ve sat in room and ate lunch with Matt Campbell. He is only a few years older than me. He is passionate, intelligent and infectious.

yea i think he is a great coach. I do worry though as they have lost games this year they shouldnt have and in close games he hasnt been the best.

but honestly if our floor is Campbell, Aranda, Napier.....we will be more than fine. I like Campbell prolly the least of the 3 from a total program manager and would put him 2nd as actual coach but I think he would do great. Personally i think Aranda goes USC or stays and its between Campbell and Napier in the end.

frick no to mark stoops, not a bad hire but no offense and not exciting. He should go to FSU though after next season if Norvall doesnt turn it around.

I’d love Campbell, but given he’s turned down multiple jobs because the timing wasn’t right for him, I don’t think opening up the check book will sway him. I wonder if he’s looking to make a move. I do know Iowa state loses a ton of key players next year, so it might be a logical stopping point for him there.

Dudes a solid coach.

Ranters, that expect a “Sabanesque” hire, will have a biblical melt.

He’s the type of coach LSU needs.

I’m NOT saying Campbell is the next Saban, there will probably never be another Saban, but their pre-LSU resumes do have some parallels…

-both at little brother schools
-records/resume at that first big job are very similar.. built program to NY6-type bowl in 5 years
-both started as HC at Toledo
-both supposedly thought of highly in NFL circles and by Belichick

Saban
1990 Toledo HC
1995 Michigan State 6-5
1996 Michigan State 6-6
1997 Michigan State 7-5
1998 Michigan State 6-6
1999 Michigan State 9-2 (Citrus Bowl)

Campbell
2012-2015 Toledo HC
2016 Iowa State 3-9
2017 Iowa State 8-5
2018 Iowa State 8-5
2019 Iowa State 7-6
2020 Iowa State 9-3 (Fiesta Bowl)
2021 Iowa State 6-4

Dude, aside from Bama, good teams lose every year. You’re not defined by your loses, you’re defined by your wins.

This may be true for Iowa State, but not for LSU. There is no team, including Bama, that LSU fans will tolerate losing to on a continuous basis. Are we unrealistic as fans at time? Absolutely. However this fan base will never "settle" for a season with multiple losses just because it beat Bama or any other school. Iowa State fans have no reason to feel this way. They wold gladly accept a 9-2 record if they beat Iowa and or Ok. in the process.

To your point about Campbell, i've been very impressed with him and think he could be exactly the guy we need. He would know the stakes get much higher for him at LSU however. I'm sure he would relish the challenge.

I’m with you!

I mentioned Campbell after UCLA, he’s exactly what LSU needs. He knows how to build program/roster, good at scheming on both sides of the ball, players bring it every game…some would say that’s a “process”.

I'd honestly rather this guy than Riley. What have Riley's teams EVER done on defense? Nada.

I agree. I definitely believe anyone with a brain would be better than what we have now but I would worry about Riley. Everyone looks at his record at OU but they seldom mention that he didn't build that program. He was handed the keys to a well oiled machine. Maybe he would be great here but he has no experience in turning a high level program around.

ISU was a weak program before he took over. For the 20 or so years prior to Campbell arriving a GREAT season for them was 7 wins. Campbell has won AT LEAST 7 games each season for the last 4 years (one win away from 7 now to make it 5 straight years). He's not only won at a tough place to do so, but he's won consistently.

The recruiting is the only question mark because you MUST recruit at the very highest level to compete in the SECW alone. If he can put to rest those concerns then LSU could do FAR worse than hiring Campbell.

In addition to righting a program in the tank, Woodward needs to make a hire to get the fans and big donors excited, I think getting Campbell would accomplish that.

I think he can win over moms in the living room.

He won the recruiting battle for Breece Hall. He might be the first back taken in the draft soon.
