I hope people come around and start getting very excited if it’s Matt Campbell.

I had him on my first tier next to Lincoln Riley.

Matt is the best pure coach in this hiring process. His teams will lose from time to time because they lack talent, but very rarely is he ever out coached.

Matt runs a spread, but he doesn’t just stick to it. If you have a small team, he will bring out 3 TEs and use them in the both the passing game and running game. He takes advantage of the opposing teams weaknesses.

Defense is a 3-3-5. They disguise blitzers, honestly, what you’ve seen the last 2 weeks from LSU is the type of defense that he runs. His linebackers are the lifeblood of the team.

Recruiting is something that will be interesting. All of Matt’s key players come from outside of the state. GA, AZ, Texas, FLA. We won’t see the impact of his recruiting year one like Jimbo or Lincoln. But, he can recruit! We might start seeing some offensive lineman pop from states like Iowa and Wisconsin.

One of my most favorite things about Matt Campbell, aside from his schemes.. is how much he loves his players and they love him. They fight for him every game. They don’t quit.

They lost to ULL a couple of seasons ago in the season opener. That same team went on to almost beat Oklahoma twice then stomped Oregon in the fiesta bowl.

Give this guy two years at LSU, he will be your favorite coach in program history. He will weed out low character players, he will put players in the best position to succeed and the culture of the program will be the best in the SEC.

If it is Matt, don’t melt. Don’t focus on that he lost to Napier. Or to Dave. Neither one of those guys could have done what he has done starting at the age of 35 in Ames, Iowa.

He was my top choice until I became infatuated with Riley as a possible option.

I’d be very happy with a Campbell hire

Riley, Aranda, Campbell…I’d be happy with any of those 3

Matt will right there ship. He has the same floor as Jimbo, but a much higher ceiling.

It's gotta be easier to recruit in Baton Rouge La. than Ames Iowa.

A guy like Campbell should never be your smokescreen.

If you talk to him, and he wants the job, give it to him.

Good post. I think we have lost some perspective during this process. At the end of the day, anything will be better than what we have now. If the last two retards can win Natty’s, anyone who is a half decent coach can.

I wouldn’t be mad about Campbell.

Dude, aside from Bama, good teams lose every year.

You’re not defined by your loses, you’re defined by your wins.

i like campbell (like napier a little more but understand wanting the P5 expierence) and would not melt.

my worry with him is simply recruiting, coaching....he is way up there.

But didnt you say he would nto leave due to his family being settled in Ames?

I didn't know much about Matt Campbell but your writeup makes me feel better about him as a potential hire.

Google “Ames Iowa.”

If he can win games there, he can win games here.

If I can be honest, I was looking and waiting for your take on Campbell bc I know you’re pretty plugged in up there and have watched far more Iowa state games than anyone on this board

I think Campbell would be a great hire

No, I’ve heard the same things, but haven’t heard that myself from any source I have at ISU.

Yes, I have sources at ISU. Haha They have been pretty useless until now.

I'd honestly rather this guy than Riley. What have Riley's teams EVER done on defense? Nada.

Good post. I’d love for his OC Manning to come with him, although it’s possible Iowa St promotes him to HC should Campbell leave.

Personally, I go to more Iowa games because we have a suite and some of the coaches are clients of mine.

My wife’s uncle is a big booster at ISU. I’ve sat in room and ate lunch with Matt Campbell. He is only a few years older than me. He is passionate, intelligent and infectious.
