Easy to say he would have, but this would likely have been a hurdle.

Yep and he would’ve accepted the Job At LSU Last Year Too. His wife was the reason he didn’t. She didn’t like Ed.

Notre Dame made a reactionary hire in the hopes they'd make the playoffs. If they didn't hire Freeman, he'd likely be at LSU with Rees as well.
If Woodward had waited a week to hire Kelly, we’d have Freeman as our DC.

What is stopping rees from coming now?
I'm not buying that.

Also, after one successful year at LSU he would have had multiple offers to be a HC. So we wouldn’t have had him very long anyway…

Marcus freeman wouldn’t have been the head coach if Tommy Rees didn’t stay with him. If ND didn’t give Freeman the head job him and Tommy Rees would be in Baton Rouge as we speak.
I'm really not buying that.

Haven’t thought about it that way. Maybe you’re right. If the hire was after the CFP decision, they might be here. Still trust Kelly to make some great hires.

ND did what LSU maybe should have done with Aranda. Dont get me wrong I love the Kelly hire but I would be lying if I said I dont wonder what it would have been like to have bumped Aranda into the HC spot instead of O.

Watched an interview with Freeman on ESPN last night. He looks to be a very likable person.
But, in the interview he said something that seems concerning to me if I was a ND fan...
Paraphrasing..."all of this is new to me, so I am taking it day to day. I am being asked to do things of which I have never done before."
It is one thing for a small school to take this chance. It is entirely different when Notre Dame offers on the job training to its Head Football Coach.

This is what happens when you promote from within. The coaching staff stays together. This is a very common thing.
It should be a testament to the staff that Kelly put together and the fact that Notre Dame wanted it to stay together.

quote:You aren’t getting half the players to ND you can get to the other teams you named. It just won’t happen no matter who’s recruiting them. It ain’t a question of whether they want to go it’s whether they can go.
Best case scenario: Freeman recruits on part with Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, LSU, etc and overcomes the talent hurdle to win a NC.

So you spoke to her about it?

I hope he does well but right now it seems like a short-sighted move for ND making him HC with a 29-year-old OC.
Come on, Marcus did NOT take a short-sighted move. If you are 29 and Notre Dame asked you to be their next Head Coach, you burn the road up to accept it.
Now Notre Dame, on the other head, panicked and was unbelievably short-sighted. It's Notre Dame. Make Marcus an Interim HC and begin a search.
The AD for Notre Dame will be exiting towards retirement sooner than he thinks.
