If Freeman leaves ND for another college job it will be Ohio State. His parents are still OSU season ticket holders. And, Columbus is a very nice city for a family.

He does. He’s still in the contract they gave him when he first became a head coach

I think he's talking to Verge out of respect

If by "talking to Verge" you mean Freeman's agent having the professional courtesy to tell Verge Freeman saod to not waste your valuable time, sure.

The LSU job isn't a blip on Freeman's radar.

Freeman’s wife absolutely hates the south. She had already stated that “it’s too damn hot here” when they came to Baton Rouge to interview for DC job and she couldn’t get out of here fast enough. There is just too many roadblocks for Freeman to come here.

I would rather Drink than Freeman.

But there really aren’t a ton of options out there. Both these guys could just be upping their offers from other schools. Freeman probably trying to get ND to pony up. Drink, PSU. But where does that leave us after the dust settles?

Kelly wanted out too. Idk. ND may suck to work for. Just throwing out possible scenarios.

I can think of 12 million+ reasons he leaves

No, he doesn't make $7M a year.

Private universities don't have to disclose their total coaching compensation packages like public universities do.

I assure you he is near the top of the market as it stands right now.

He signed an extension last year. He is in the Lane Kiffin / Brian Kelly range as it stands right now. He will be at the very top of the comp bands ($11M+ / year) after the current negotiations finish here shortly.

Again, private universities don't have to disclose the total comp package. He is in the top 10 - 15 in all of college football as it stands right now before the extension.

And if you think LSU will want to go toe-to-toe with Notre Dame in financial resources, I invite you to be my guest.

There are probably perks about the ND job that influence someone like Freeman.....also, Notre Dame has more patience with their coaches then we do. We've fired coaches with winning records and.....after winning seasons

Good, because I do not think LSU competes for championships with him at the helm. I don’t think any school in the SEC does. ND has a unique setup that benefits them and overinflated their coaches value. Been this way for decades.

100% agreed. But even if boosters and $ was an issue. He wouldn't be coming to LSU. He turned us down twice (once was understandable b/c he became the HC) and is not going to leave ND unless the OSU job comes available.

Freeman already had a chance to choose between ND and LSU. He chose ND.

I think it's more likely his agent trying to get ND to up his contract.

Now let's put a little context behind that decision.

ND with Brian Kelly in his 12th year, compiling a 33-5 record over the previous 3 seasons and his last DC (Clark Lea) left to take the HC position at Vandy, hence the job opening.

or

LSU with Ed Orgeron on the hot seat, having to replace both coordinators, including a fired DC after one season coming off of a .500 season immediately following a NC season. And ended up having to hire virtual unknowns. The writing was on the wall.

Hmmm.....what was the better career decision? Stable environment or buffoon show?
