I agree but does anyone really know how engaged he was in game planning and in game adjustments on defense during his Vandy career? It was obviously his scheme installed.
I can see the idea behind the hire and on paper it looks good - at least he has a lot of talent at his disposal next year.
Statistically speaking, Vandy had the 2nd worst defense in college football last year (allowed 7.1 yards per play).

And one of the talented rosters. Not saying he’s going to terrorize the SEC, but it takes players to make plays. Auburn will certainly have better players than Vandy.

But does that excuse him for having some of the worst defenses in college football last 2 years tho?

Major talent gap, and this past year Vandy was one of the teams hit hardest by covid opt outs. He was playing with backups in many positions.
