I think this is a bad hire. Mason’s defense at Vanderbilt the last few seasons were atrocious. How much credit does he really deserve from Stanford?

He was instrumental in stopping the vaunted Oregon offense when at Stanford.
His offenses at Vandy were actually pretty good his first few years, but completely fell off a cliff the past 3.
Don't know what to make of it. Auburn could have a defense in the top 20 or bottom 30 and neither would surprise me.

Comparing a guy's head coaching tenure to his ability to solely focus on running an offensive or defensive unit is a shallow way of thinking.

Mason feels a lot like a Pelini hire.
Nebraska has the #1 defense in 2009 and #9 in 2010
Mason last top 10 defense was 2014.
