Let’s talk about Jeff Brohm….

Seeing Purdue’s QB eviscerate Michigan State’s defense last night led me to take look at his career.
Obviously, he’s a Petrino disciple, which when it comes to QB play I’m a big fan of.
After playing QB at Louisville in the 90s, he kicked around the NFL for several seasons before getting into coaching. His success as Petrino’s QB coach with his younger brother at Louisville is well known.
Then he sort of drifted around as a QB coach/OC without much success for the next several years (including at Illinois under Zook
) before hooking back up with Petrino at Western Kentucky in 2013. When Petrino went back to Louisville the next season, Brohm got his shot as a HC and did not disappoint.
After going 8-5 in his first season (Petrino was 8-4 the years before) WKU went 22-5 the next two seasons, winning back to back CUSA titles and both bowl games.
Most notably, his quarterback Brandon Doughty lit the conference on fire. After throwing 14 TDS and 14 INTs in 2013, he went for 49/10 and 48/9 in his two seasons with Brohm as HC.
His QB in 2016, Mike White who is currently playing for the Jets, went for 37/7 (he went for 26/8 the year after when Brohm left).
Compare what he did at WKU to what someone like Napier has done at UL and it isn’t really even that close. Brohm then did what Napier needs to do now, and took a prove it job at lower tier P5 job at Purdue, which was an absolute dumpster fire when he took over.
It’s been a bumpy road in West Lafayette, which was to be expected, going 7-6, 6-7, 4-8, and 2-4, before this year when he has the Boilermakers at 6-3 and still in contention for a division title (3 way tie but has lost to the two other teams).
Notably though, he’s gotten very respectable QB play out in the Big 10 out of players like Elijah Sindelar, David Blough
, Jack Plummer, and of course Aiden O’Connell, who shredded the #3 ranked Spartans defense for over 500 yards last night.
While this honestly isn’t a “winner of the week” take, I do think his history under Petrino and his record of getting production at the QB position to go with his HC experience both at WKU and Purdue makes him an interesting name to keep an eye on as the season plays out, assuming the elite options like Riley, Rhule, Jimbo, or even Campbell don’t pan out.
If we are looking at guys like Aranda, Napier, or Tucker, there certainly is no reason to not bring Brohm in for an interview to see his pitch.
Of course, Purdue plays Ohio State next weekend, so this thread could easily be bumped for lols soon enough. But that game could be interesting to watch for anyone that thought Tucker was a top candidate just yesterday.
Another impressive by his QB and offense as a huge underdog should make more than one AD stop and take notice imo.
Just one more name to throw to the CCB wolves
HC record: 55-38 (30-10 at WKU with 2 CUSA titles, 25-28 at Purdue)

I think he's a much better coach than his record indicates.
Purdue isn't a recruiting destination by any means.

Are we talking about the OC job?

Good coach.
But he’s not gonna get a look

And he has gotten some pretty talented players there. I think he's better than his record as well. He goes like 8-4 and I could see him getting looks. For whatever reason I think he'd be a good hire Florida to replace Mullen

He is the giant killer
But their propensity to get beaten by shitty teams puzzles me

Good offensive mind for sure. I think he’s similar to Mullen. Great offensive/QB coach and will do good, not great, at a mid level Power 5 school.
Can he take over at a major program?

I like him and I’ve followed his career. His lack of a running game kills it a bit for me.
He’s kind of like Stoops at Kentucky. He’s got it made there with low expectations.

Purdue is the Georgia Tech of the Big 10.
Much thinner list of potential recruits merely due the academic rigor.

He brought WKU in and lit us up on offense a while back.

Scott Woodward is bringing in a proven stud.

He wins one game and suddenly he's in the mix. My God some of you are so retarded.

Like I said yesterday, in two years if our job was open he would be a Jay Johnson type hire then.
He and Chris Klieman at Kansas State are on their way up. Both have the ship righted at tough programs to win at, and either would be a sneaky good hire here but you can't sell them yet.

Most of these clowns won't be happy if the hire doesn't have at least one NC under their belt already.
They require this at a school they also claim to be the easiest in the country to recruit.
He hasn't won a "chip" at Purdue? "He sucks!"
Comical.

We should just start calling this “The Dan Mullen Fallacy” because I see it thrown around so much it deserves its own name- where if a guy is .500 at a crap school in a big conference, everyone believes that he would magically become a 10-win coach at an elite school. I feel like 90% of the time or more, it doesn’t work like that. Guy is .500 at Purdue for a reason, PASS
