You’d be getting coach under 40 from a blue blood that literally has been to the cfp 3/4 years that he has been coach and an unlikely but possible shot at this year. Conference champ every single year.

I get that jimbo had won the thing but he was coming off a season where he was 5-6.

I can’t think of anyone performing at that level at a blue blood making a move.

There is logic behind it (why compete in the SEC from OU compared to LSU, salary for himself assistants etc) but it would be the first move at this level in my lifetime

Only thing comparable would be Roy Williams leaving Kansas for UNC

We would have done what Texas has tried and failed to do multiple times.

Well Roy was the prodigal son at UNC. Dean asked him to come back and he couldn’t turn that down from his mentor.

Yep. I hope we get our due credit when this proves to be true

Hypothetically, yes it would be, probably since Paul Dietzel left LSU for Army in 1962 4 years removed from a national title, including 3 straight top 5 finishes and a Heisman winner (Billy Cannon)

Probably so but this is a purely hypothetical thread discussing where a move like that would stand historically

The hire may not be Riley, but I'm really hoping he is because you're being such a fig about it.

Right it’s a name that’s not discussed much for this position because nobody thinks it’s possible. It’s SABAN . He said he had some unfinished business here and wanted to set things right before he retired.

0.

I’m assuming you are making a reference to jimbo which I addressed. He is the closest thing that I can think of in football but he was clearly on a downward swing at FSU and historically OU prestige>>>FSU prestige. Riley is at worst going to end 10-2 one year out from a conference title or goes 12-1 and wins the conference. Jimbo was coming off a 5-6 season and hadnt even won his division in 3 seasons. He was also over 50.
