Very strange how LSU's and Maryland's football programs have been so intertwined the last couple of weeks. I live 10 minutes from the UMD campus, so I somewhat follow Maryland football.

First Crowton goes to Maryland, then people start talking about Friedgen coming to LSU, and now talk of Mike Leach and LSU (the man who seemed sure to succeed Friedgen at Maryland until the Terps surprisingly chose Edsall).

It's just strange to see my favorite college football team's path colliding with that of the team that plays down the street from me, even though most of it (except for Crowton) is just speculation and talk.

That would make for some interesting names, the mad hatter, the chief and the pirate.

Let me get this straight. Some of you are implying that Les would not recruit a highly rated, coveted Louisiana player because he wouldn't fit a certain scheme on offense.

Wow. We should at least give him a call.

Won't happen. There is a good reason.

Crowton's failure was not helping LSU get a QB that could pass for more than his weight once in 3 years!

Isnt Tubbs having a hard time establishing an SEC type offense at Texas Tech because of Leachs lack of size on the O-line! Is this what LSU needs?

There you go. The optimum offensive linemen in Leach's system are slightly smaller, quicker, athletic linemen.

Bottom line: in the SEC you have to be able to run to win, and to do that successfully, barring a Cam Newton type qb, you need huge, "road grader" linemen.

Just say no to Mike Leach.

I can't count the ways he doesn't fit at LSU.

I don't know why, just don't see Leach "fitting in" with Les.

Plus, have you ever heard him on XM? He sounds like he is about to die at any minute. He can't make it 2 minutes without hacking up a lung on the air.

Hm I do believe because of the pure shotgun nature of Leach's offense, his ideal o-line was massive. During Graham Harrells senior run every linemen was 6'6 or 6'7 with the exception of the center. Definitely agree he wouldn't fit in in any way with our recruiting base over the last few years but his linemen weren't small and athletic.

No. Texas Tech had the 15th ranked offense in the country in 2010. Tubbs hired Neil Brown so Tech could keep the same offense in place at Texas Tech.

Maybe ranked #10 but still dont think it will work in the sec, but then again what do I know. It could work I guess?

If I'm not mistaken, Leach had an offensive line that averaged over 300 pds...those guys looked like NFL lineman, they were one of the best lines in the country...

Aaannndddd Ding Ding Ding - We have a winner, finally, on page, what, 4 of the thread?

Notwithstanding the tension between the two regarding playcalling, can you see Leach keeping his yap shut and letting CLM be the front man for the Tigers? And when he doesn't, THAT'S the Les Miles speech I'd like to try to decipher.
