Lane Kiffen question

I keep seeing his name on these boards with the explanation of how he would have u limited resources. Didn't he basically have unlimited resources when he was at USC ??

I think the common belief is that he has grown a ton as a coach and person since then. Worked under Saban for a while, learned how to run a program, and has now done well at Ole Miss.

They were under *ahem* draconian sanctions

Lane took over the program from Pete Carroll, had Barkley at QB, EdO doing the crootin, and still somehow ran the program into the ground.

The NCAA had just hammered them when he took over. They weren't eligible for the conference title or postseason his first two seasons, and they seemed to really feel the scholarship reductions after that.

Yeah, but he left UT and ran full speed to that situation. It wasn't like he was blindsided after he got there.

If your question is "How to spell Kiffin" then I can help.

The penalties came down after he was already at USC, and were far harsher than anticipated. He likely expected to get a longer leash from Pat Haden because of it.
But Kiffin had a really good 2nd season, and they were stupidly ranked #1 in the AP Poll heading into 2012, so he was held to the championship standards of the Carroll era instead of the reality at hand. I remember one of the preview magazines that year specifically pointed out the talent dropoff behind the starting 22.

Yes. But the NCAA had laid Bama style sanctions down on them. Which made me question his decision making at that point. No coach worth a shite takes over a program with those sanctions.

USC is his white whale. Sanctions or no sanctions I’d leave wherever for LSU and think I could fix it, just like I’m sure you would with Bama.

And those penalties had not had a major impact on the talent already on Lane’s USC teams. He was loaded with talent, Heisman caliber QB, preseason No1, and lost to every team with a pulse his entire career at USC.

From what I understand had he been given one more year at USC he would have made something. The coach who took over had the horses to win. (But that is just me and my cloudy memory).

I was on the lane train for a few years but He threw his entire team under the bus after recent loss
Gave them no incentive to win the remainder of the games.
He’s a negative a-hole narcissist.

After Californy there was Joey Freshwater, followed by Joey Saltwater in Florida.
I'm not sure which Joey fits in Oxford, but for A&M Joey Brackishwaster might do.

Oregon definitely had a pulse in 2011.

They had to know the penalties were coming.

Just to help you out a bit so that you get better responses:
1) Your thread title is terrible
2) Just in general, don’t make the title a question to see if you can ask a different question. We don’t need that middle man. Just say, “why are people championing Kiffin with unlimited resources at A&M when he had them at USC and wasn’t successful.”
3) If you’re going to make your subject a question on if you can ask a question—and you shouldn’t—at least make the next question intriguing.
4) These type of nondescript titles are frowned upon by the admins, because people have to click your link blindly, mostly to be disappointed.
Not hating, just imparting knowledge if you’re looking to get better and more responses:
