Well that would be fricking retarded
It would be retarded to keep a coach you know is leaving, that will be recruiting your players to follow him and won’t leave until after the portal is closed effectively screwing your roster for next year since there is only one portal window now?

Please tell me how that is “retarded”. Hell everyone on this board thinks he is leaving. Why should Ole Miss just let him stick around and frick them over?

But he has a contract until 2029. He doesn’t have to do anything. He can take his time. He has all the leverage here. Ole Miss is not going to fire him and not signing the extension doesn’t mean he ends up at LSU or Florida. Ole Miss can’t panic here. Let it play out a while. He is a generational coach for you.

First off all, no, this whole board does not believe that. Secondly, this board is far from a representation of everyone nationally following this thing.

Well, first off you lose buyout money.
They aren’t firing him. They would be pulling the extension offer, effectively just letting him go to Florida or LSU. Unless he wants to turn their offers down and stay with his current agreement

I just don’t see what OM benefits by being “in on it”

So they do all this today.. to what? Maybe throw UF and LSU for a loop for a while?

Weird gamble to put your reputation and coach’s buy in to your university in question publicly to throw off the timing of a rival hire.

I want him at LSU, but I think he is slightly overrated. He has done a good job this season, but Ole Miss is 1-1 against possible playoff teams this year. A lot of close games. The OU win is a really nice win. He did a bad job last year losing to UK and UF with a more talented roster. He has Sean Payton vibes though. Gets fancy at times when it’s not necessary.

I don’t think Kiffin is ready for the pressure and scrutiny that will come with the LSU job, honestly.

You’re stupid if you let him drag this out without you having a chance to hire a good replacement

Ole Miss real mistake was bidding against themselves by offering the extension before he came to them with a concrete offer from another school. Ole Miss put themselves in this no-win situation by doing that.

What good replacement, that is a lock for Ole Miss, is too good for them to not wait Kiffin out?

As painful as it would be, I’m with you. You don’t let a coach hold your school hostage like this. I think it’s frankly horrible how Kiffin is handling this. And I hate Ole Miss for the record and hope the Rebs lose in perpetuity.

It’s Sexton. He wants as much money as possible. If he bails, you move on. You have money. You don’t force out the only coach that has made you relevant before he even leaves. It’s so stupid.

there's a massive gap between how he's actually handling it and your perception of how he's handling.

Sumrall. Yes we could and probably would outbid Auburn for him

Meh. I would take 20% of Kiffin saying over Sumrall (assuming that is even a lock)

No there’s not. His family boarded an LSU jet to tour different schools during a bye week. That’s not even hiding the fact that you’re actively seeking employment elsewhere during a playoff run. The only similar situation I recall is the Texas a&m baseball coach choosing Texas while coaching in the national championship.

See this is a false narrative though. Ole Miss admin created this situation by offering him an extension before they had to creating this awkward situation. That is not on Lane he didn’t ask for the extension from them. They could have said privately to him “Lane you are our guy and we will match or exceed any offer you get from anywhere else.” But they didn’t do that. They decided to publicize this extension which was stupid for two reasons. First, because it creates the awkwars situation they are in now, and second you now let the other schools know the number to beat.

Same. I do think it’s a ploy by kiffin and his agent to get more money from ole miss.
