Kiffin is the best option on the board. Woodward is an idiot if he let's things that happened a decade ago scare him away. I hope we don't screw this up when the answer is so obvious.

At this point I’d say these are the realistic candidates:
Napier
Campbell
Aranda
Kiffin
Fickell
Petersen
It’ll be one of those.

Don't get why people are so in love with Kiffin. He would be the "exciting" hire, sure, but how long would he actually stay at LSU until something better came up. And I don't have any faith that he can actually build up and sustain the program.

LSU needs to go in a different direction than hiring another big old fish. Paying unreal amounts of money based on what a coach accomplished years ago is just painfully ignorant imo. Hallman should be the poster boy for that. Do you hire based on winning National Championships? that would mean LM and O would be great hires, and we all know just how little they understand about winning football. we need energy, and modern football know how with good football genes. LSU needs a young coach, period! otherwise chances are LSU is going to pay out another 40-50 million and be hiring again in another 5 years, because it is going to take 3-5 years to rebuild this program. LSU is just about as low as its ever been imo, and it is only because of the transfer portal potential that we don't have a long haul back up the ladder. Let's go with youth and enthusiasm and incentivized pay linked with success.

Chris Petersen from Boise State to Washington was timing...
same with Fisher to A&M...
Saban to Alabama...
Harbaugh to Michigan...
Herman was the big fish in 2016...if Texas doesn't have an opening, he goes to LSU.
You nailed it. Same is true with our most recent big fish - Kim Mulkey.

I have no sources, but I have 0 doubt that Bob Stoops would come to LSU if offered the job. He clearly wants to coach again. LSU is the best job opening (that doesn't already have an obvious successor) any time soon. He's 61, so each passing year is going to drop his stock. He still hates Texas, so Texas joining the SEC will give him a chance to whoop on them (possibly) regularly.

Because he's the "exciting" hire. He should absolutely not be high enough on the list that he is realistically ever hired for a plethora of reasons(off the field nightmare, so far seems to be an offensive coordinator masquerading as a head coach), but the board will continue to beat that drum and melt that he wasn't hired because he's "exciting" and will do literal mic drops during pre game interviews.

I’m putting my money still on Tucker landing the job.
But he isn’t in my top 5 candidates.

I'd be more disappointed in a Tucker hire than I was with the O hire, and that left me plenty disappointed.

0.0% chance of that happening.

Well, here's what Bob said.
quote:
“In our profession it’s all-consuming and at a certain point I figured I just loved what I had done and it couldn’t have been any better,” he said. “In life if you don’t open yourself up to other opportunities, you won’t ever know what else is out there.”
“In the end, do I miss it? Heck yeah. Do I regret it? No. It was just time for me. I felt too after 18 years in one place that I had run my course there.”
Oh, he's coming!! He's ready!!

When did he say that? That definitely is not permanent retirement talk

Article from 2018... Burnout seems. maybe he has recharged his batteries and found ways to delegate more.

Bob Stoops Opens Up About Why He Left Coaching
One year ago today, the Oklahoma legend Bob Stoops shockingly resigned from his spot as head coach of the Oklahoma Sooners.
During Stoops' 18 years at Oklahoma, he went 190-48 and 9-9 in all college bowl games. He brought the Sooners into the limelight, and they have stayed there ever since.
The 57-year old coach had done it all, and he was ready to "own his own time." He walked away from a job (and a six million dollar salary) that he loved, but the time and the intensity that the job carried with it became too much for Stoops.
Success did not come for free. Stoops worked seven day weeks from July until February, along with multiple recruiting weekends sporadically during the "off" months. He had to deal with equipment problems, players, coaches, disciplinary problems, recruiting issues, and hundreds of other duties that come along with being a head coach.
When Stoops realized that he was leaving the Sooners in good hands with Lincoln Riley, he began to take some time for himself. Sometimes, it's too much time for Stoops' liking, but he still finds ways to stay with involved with his old team.
After all, being a part of an organization for 18 years merits some withdrawal. Stoops went to 12 Oklahoma games last season and claims that he still feels attached to the players and coaches.
Stoops is taking retirement in stride, telling the world that "football isn't my whole life." Traveling, golfing, and spending time with his kids is the new routine, and he is adjustment his new quiet life.
Enjoy it, Coach Stoops, you deserve it.

Great find dude. Although Although hire would seem to be a great hire I would be a tad worried about how his last couples years were until Riley showed uo.
But overall would be over the moon with a stoops hire

The guy that fits this is urban Meyer. Not happy in the NFL and wants to build another program back. Go get him
