On if his agent is talking with other schools:
When asked about his current contract situation:
And on his commitment to being at Oregon State:

"He better be, I mean, that's his job. To let me know what's out there. Otherwise why am I paying him so much? I mean, you're talking about a couple million so far. Its an agent's job to let you know what the offers are."
When asked about his current contract situation:
quote:
“There’s been conversations. Some of it, for me individually on my contract, because we’ve won the amount of games we have, I’ve already got an automatic extension. So I’m sitting on another six years. So that part is not as critical. The big piece is just not about me. We’ve got a big-time staff here. It’s just not about me and the insecurity and uncertainty. The staff here, same way. We’ve got players here, same way. We’ve got to continue to support it so we act like a power-five level.”
And on his commitment to being at Oregon State:
quote:
“I will say that I grow more and more confident every time I talk to (athletic director) Scott (Barnes) in regards to the plan to operate and fund at the Power 5 level, scheduling and trying to create a schedule that works. It’s not an easy task. You know the situation that us and Washington State are in, but my confidence grows listening to Scott more and more on the plan to fund it at that level and how we’re going to get it done… my confidence grows on that end.”

I think he is one we’ve probably had serious discussions with

Whatever team gets him out of Corvallis will be very happy

First coach I've heard of to give the right answer on this.
And it doesn't have to mean he's looking to leave. It's just an honest answer about the coach/agent business relationship.

I think our next coach is coming from the PAC.

It sucks that the PAC is breaking up especially with the new playoff structure coming.

This guy is the opposite of Jeff Traylor

Oregon State had the least amount of outgoing players in the transfer portal last year. Smith is doing something right.

Traylor is a typical Texan lol

He is being very upfront, and probably more honest than most coaches. Whoever wants his services better no dick around. It sounds like he has no problem betting on himself at OSU for another year until he can get something he can't say no to.

I wonder if Smith being an OSU alum plays any part in him staying or going. From his comments it doesn't seem to count for much.

He would be a solid hire IMO

The one that left looks like a land mine sent by him.

I think it’s a factor but basically getting demoted is a major problem. He isn’t going to get a realistic look from the CFP and recruiting is just going to get harder. Personally I’d love to have the guy but I suspect he’d prefer a B1G program.
