Franklin was at K-State almost a decade ago. By your standards, he's almost as big of an icon in the Lone Star State as Tom Landry.

After all, he was in the same conference with Texas (unlike Mack) and it was more recent than 14 years ago.

Signed an extension.

What are the buyouts on these extensions? I can't imagine $2 million or so would be a big deal for a school with the resources of UT.

It's not, but you didn't say Saban correctly

Oh, Saban's definitely going to Texas and bringing all of his players with him. I bet Yeldon and Landon Collins will gladly sit out a year.

But on the 1 percent chance Saban doesn't go , I'm not sure why an extension to Briles or Strong will have a huge impact on the search process. I recall the buyouts were much steeper when you try to fire a coach rather than when he gets hired elsewhere.

The adjustment from Vandy/Maryland to Texas is huge. They would be wise to hire a coach with experience at a major program

I have no idea but I'd find it hard for Briles to sign it and then turn around and say, "Uh, sorry, I got a better offer" particularly after his success with RG III, Nick Florence and now Bryce Petty.

He does like to stay in Texas though. He was at Houston before Baylor.

That said, I think he wants to stay at Baylor but who knows. Just my opinion.

He has one of the better overall records in the SEC the past few years at Vandy.

They're 11-13 in the SEC under him. That's far from one of the best. I'm not doubting he's a good coach though.

The politics and situations he will deal with at Texas are vastly different than Vandy. I never once recall seeing him at a press conference over the rape scandal. If that happened at UT? It would be a media shite storm

They're also 23-15 overall with him. Do you want to know the last time a coach had a record above .500 after 3 seasons at Vanderbilt?

Right. Once again I don't doubt his coaching ability. Just saying the notion that his record is one of the best in the SEC is wrong. This position is about much more than X's and O's

In regards to Art Briles, from my reading Shaggy over the last few days, lots of UT fans claim that Briles HATES UT.

Like, wants to burn the place to the ground hate.

I have no idea if they are right or if there is some kind of back story or what but a lot of them say he hates UT so much that no amount of money could get him to work there.

Yeah, after I posted I made myself curious and Googled.

Apparently, Briles son signed with UT and Mack and was a QB but wasn't very good. So Mack converted him to a safety and then when Briles got the head coaching job at Houston, he transferred there and played WR.

Now he coaches with his dad at Baylor.

Maybe they feel like Mack did him dirty when he played there.

Yeah I don't know honestly. Briles loves to spew the venom toward UT and A&M though

Makes sense. I was wondering why Briles wasn't included. He seemed like an obvious choice.
