I think Orgeron is making closer to 800k - 1 mil, he wants in the range of 750-800 here and we don't have enough to pay him that and get any sort of assistants so that's dead.

Yeah, who'd coach a school that doesn't exist anymore?

Orgeron is slimy and a weasel and would ULL as a stepping stone. Don't trust him.

I'm not trying to bust on ULL, but what is the deal with the finances/economics of their football program? It seems to be used as a source of income for the school simply by being cannon fodder for a few larger D1 schools. They just don't seem to have any commitment to building a winning program, and I don't know if it's a money issue or what, but I can't imagine them hiring a name coach like Orgeron. I never understood why they went to D1. They seem to have traded being competitive at a level appropriate for the talent they can get, for making money and fielding at best mediocre teams.

You can buy a season ticket to their football games for around $6.00.

Papa Ray Authement killed ULL football. He was so paranoid about a repeat of the basketball scandal that led to the NCAA death penalty, that he micro managed the athletic program. Not sure if ULL will ever be able to successfully capitalize a legit D1 program, even at the mid-major level.

Also, am I the only one who thinks Jay Walker is retarded?

Dr. A was awful in regards to athletics but we have the RCAF now and T-Joe has a great deal of interest in athletics. I really liked the Marlin hire so I'm anxious to see how football does.

Yeh, I mean with the RCAF installed they might look at going in the right direction. Finally, try to make money with this thing. There is no reason they can't win the SunBelt year in and year out. Laffy has to be better than fricking Troy or where ever these other sunbelt schools are located. Bustle or anyone never got the kids they should have... But, back to the main thing, money... the dept has to put up or shut up. They could make it if they start going to a damn bowl game every year. You have to spend it to make it.

I do not understand why schools like ULL play the SEC and Big 12 teams!! Sure it makes a lot of money to get your head bashed in, but doesn't it kill the recruiting effort? I mean what talented athlete wants to go to a school who consistently only wins 3-5 games a year?!!

No! The next thing they can do to improve the image of their program is get rid of that idiot as their radio play by play man. Jerk personified. For a program that hasn't gone to a bowl game in over two decades, and struggles to avg more than 17k a season, that is one arrogant POS!

They most definitely do it for the money, but I doubt it hurts their recruiting at all. The guys they know they can get aren't the talents that can go to the bigger schools. They can use those games with the bigger schools as recruiting tools to help land the "better of the lesser" talent. Saying we go play these big teams in these big stadiums, and you could help us compete with them better. Plus, it may help them get on tv, which is good for recruiting too.
Look at recent years, teams from the Sun Belt have actually beaten teams out of the Big XII and SEC.

FWIW I have been hearing Coach Cook from Notre Dame highschool is being looked at.

STFU...we aren't hiring a high school coach. We learned our lesson with Robert Lee in basketball.
Posted on 11/29/10 at 12:35 pm to BoogerEater
Louie Cook already coached at ULL didn't he?

You've been hearing wrong. 0.00% chance he is hired as the next head coach.

Since this is a board about coaching changes and it's what I heard I wont STFU! Malzahn isn't doing bad in college, huh?
Don't know if Cook has coached at ULL already. Just heard that he is getting looked at. With how cheap ULL is I wouldn't be surprised at all.

We are going to pay our next coach probably double Rickey Bustle's salary, not having money in the past does not equal being cheap.
