Is Arkansas and Pittman playing coy?

Is he actually staying or are they just letting him finish out the year and save face by retiring at the end?
I’m of the opinion that when it’s over, it’s over and it is time to move on. The fact nothing has been said is worrisome to me. Also, the longer this drags out the more restless the fans will become and increases the chance something happens to comp,Evelyn destroy what could have been an amicable parting.
If he is staying, then what happens with recruiting? Who leaves the sinking ship via the portal? New OC, who would step into a dead man walking situation? Ticket renewals for next year will be in the tank! This is a disaster of epic proportions if he stays and may very well end Arkansas football for another decade.

I think he “retires” at the end of the season. As a program we want to give ourselves the best shot to win the next two games and preferably his removal will be amicable. Remember he fired our OC and our DC is sorta young so I don’t think we want to go into the home game versus Missouri without our OC or HC when the game is potentially winnable (depending on which Arkansas team shows up).

He is pretty much staying another year.
That could be for various reasons.

From my perspective, if he was going to step down, then announcing his retirement effective at the end of the year would have been the best option. Unless he doesn’t want to retire and is forcing a firing. Which brings up other issues like cash flow to actually do the buyout without booster strings attached.

Maybe he announces his retirement to the team right before the Missouri game in effort to motivate the team to leave it all on the field. He pulls off the upset and gets carried off the field and into retirement.

Only way he retires is if Arkansas agrees to pay the buyout.

I think Pittman has done a pretty good job. Not sure why they want to force him out so badly. Look, they’ve had some really close losses. Bama, LSU, etc. I don’t think they’re that far off it’s just been some bad breaks here and there.
The guy loves that university and his teams are tough. I think he deserves another year

Lost to Liberty last year. Almost got beat by Missouri State last year. Lost to BYU this year. Team was totally disengaged and inept in losses to MSU and Auburn at home this year, two games Arkansas was favored to win.
6-6 in year 3 being followed by a losing season in year 4.
He was supposed to at least make our offensive line a strength and it has been abysmal this year.
He’s done.

I think you could have made that case until they got blown out at home by Auburn, 48-11.

It takes time to compete man. People don’t just come in and rebuild a program overnight. Nobody walks in and wins the division in their first year. He took over a bad situation with a bad roster. Give him 4 years at a minimum and he will have you guys winning 8-9 games id bet

He’s a terrible in game coach. We were supposed to be loaded on offense this year and we have been trash. Worst Oline in years and that’s his specialty.
Sam is a good man, love Arkansas, and is well respected among the coaching community. He’ll be treated with dignity and not tossed to the curb like some schools do.

I hope so. He really does seem like a good guy

I believe he's done after the Missouri game. Could that change sure nothing is final until it is.

Serious question: Why was he hired to begin with? Everyone could see this was going to be a disaster.
He's a position coach that's never called plays. That almost never works and is extremely rare for guys like that to be hired.
Orgeron and Dabo are about the only examples, and they were both internal hires. To hire an external position coach just seems crazy and/or lazy.

As of now, I think the plan is for him to retire at the end of the year. There's really no reason to announce it sooner. You can't interview a coach at another school without permission from said school and few schools are going to grant that permission during the season.
An early name I'm hearing if he does hang it up is Mike Elko. Malzahn and Odom will be popular names but I think they'll cut ties from the Pittman era altogether. Malzahn is a possibility but it will be a little dramatic if it happens. I think Arky folks will know what I mean.

To his credit, he did a really solid job. He wasn't able to be successful in the portal, especially the last class, and that's why we are here. Arkansas was in bad shape when he got there and he's gonna leave it in okay shape.

If he leaves now then yes he would leave it in better shape.
But if he doesn't then he will let it revert back to Chad level.
