I will say this, a coach that I know had an Jimbo offer (HCIW), but passed to stay where he was. He is now out of a job. HC and staff got canned. In that profession you never know. Its day to day. Hes a very good coach and won't take long to get a job. Good coaches bounce back.

Not sure what you're saying, but my take:

Take Mullen at MSU for example....lower pay, but easier job when it comes to managing expectations. A 8-4 or 7-5 season is great at MSU, but down at UF.

Now not saying Mullen's job is easier though, because he has less talent & lesser facilities to work with at MSU than Meyer does at UF, so he's got to work harder to get his players/recruits to perform.

You really have to define easier. None of these jobs are "easy." All of these guys work relentlessly and to suggest that some can work less is ludicrous. If the job was easy, then any qualified candidate should do very well and that is just not the case. To build a program like Bowden, you need some key competitive advantage, like an incredibly rich recruiting base. Some schools will never have that kind of advantage, and whatever success they do achieve will be very difficult to sustain.

The OP, I believe, is trying to say it is easier to succeed at a program that is already established or has a great tradition.

Bear Bryant and Bobby Bowden really get credit for making their schools into the football powers that they are.

Urban Meyer you could say is a great coach but Spurrier really gets the credit for putting the program on the map.

Mack Brown did take over Texas while they were down, but Texas has always had the tradition, fan base, and reputation as being a player on the national level.

As to the OP...Since the question is what is more rewarding, I guess that is up to the fellow who takes the job. If he is more concerned about taking credit for starting a new football power, then I guess Urban would consider the job he has done at Florida very unfulfilled. But he probably would have stayed at Utah if that is what he thought was most important. If he is more concerned about having the self-satisfaction that he did the very best with what he was given, then as the only coach in the BCS era to win 2 National Championships AT ONE SCHOOL, then he should pat himself on the back.

What Bowden did at FSU is all the more impressive when you consider that he did it before the scholarship limits were changed.
