but I didn't think they played well or looked prepared at all against Ole Miss, Vandy or A&M

We had injuries that contributed to those games.

But, i can promise you that there's a significant chance that we end up in a worse spot than we were with Baker.

If we lose Baker, we need to make a great hire and load the D up with talent.

Yeah Baker isn’t gonna be the DC anyway so the whole thread is idiotic

Probably should've been 56-25 or 53-25 final score.

Since we're making up what the score should have been, we should have continued shutting the down like we did in the first half and won 38-21

Wait, wait. So you’re pointing out a defense played better against worst offenses than really good ones? That is some brilliant insight. Your conclusion is dumb as all frick, though. And intellectually dishonest to boot. Unless you’re just not very intelligent.

Baker definitely called for a blown coverage

Looking at yards per play or points per play is a better way to view it because it takes into account how fast or slow offenses move. For instance, vandy and lsu play at some of the slowest paces in the country offensively this season. Ole miss obviously plays at a much faster pace.

So lsu gave up 480 yards to ole miss and 400 to vandy. But thats essentially equal, because its approx 6 yards per play in each game. Thats against two really good offenses, but 6 yards per play is pretty dismal. It would be 104th nationally

I'm fine with Baker leaving, too. He was ok, and the defense was better than it had been, but wasn't great.

Well you’re a dumbass. The defense does get tired when they’re constantly on the field
Ole Miss had a 17 play drive on their 3rd or 4th possession. The defense wasn't tired then.

We absolutely could play a lot better. I think we need more modern linebackers, guys who are more safety in measurements. The line was good, the secondary was good. The linebackers were the weak link, zero contain or cleanup on mobile QBs.

And since Baker seems he IS leaving, we just need to move on now.

We gave up an average of 35 points to those 3 teams. That would be ranked close to dead last in CFB if going by points allowed.

Also, in those 28 combined total drives, we stopped them 13 times and they scored on the other 15 (13 TDs and 2 FGs).

'
We gave up 24 to Ole Miss. Defense gave us every chance to win that game and Nussmeier looked like he was throwing the ball with his non-dominant hand all day.

7 against A&M was special teams and our defense kept us in that game through half time. Offense just couldn't do shite and defense got gassed.

Vanderbilt our offense couldn't stay on the damn field or put the ball in the endzone. Lost TOP 23m-37m. Also Pavia is just good and made some miraculous plays. He whooped up a lot of good defenses this year.

I think the big thing you’re missing here OP is that with the standard you’re holding them to, idk what defense would be good enough. In my opinion this is the best defense LSU has had since 2011. Yes I think they’re better than the 2019 defense. With the way you’re judging, you wouldn’t say our 2007 defense was that good. They gave up a lot of points in several games. I agree with you that the Vandy game was not great by them. But idk how you can say they weren’t good against ole Miss. They played tough as hell and got turnovers that allowed us to hang around and have a shot even with our offense being totally useless. The reality is that no matter how good your defense is, most likely you’ll have a game or two where the other team’s offense has a good game and you gotta out score them. You won’t find a single SEC team that didn’t have a game where they gave up a good amount of points this year.

And if we want to say our D wasn’t good against Vandy then that’s fine, but they were awesome against Ole Miss, Florida, Oklahoma, Bama, and I would even argue they were really good against A&M but ran out of gas in the 2nd half when our offense was doing their usual hanging the defense out to dry.

No, Baker is not perfect. But I think they may have been the best in the SEC this year and they single handedly kept us in almost every game.

A lot of you are getting caught on this whole “coaching/coordinator” thing. The players still have to make tackles and execute. It’s not on him.

If we're paying a coordinator north of $2M, are you really going to accept average?

I certainly don't. I can pay someone a quarter of the price to have the same outcome.

It also looked like the team totally quit in the 2nd half of the A&M game.

Even though we had the 6th ranked strength of schedule, that is somehow unimpressive because we ... checks notes... stat padded against bad teams

He's getting paid to make stops and not let the other team score touchdowns, right?????

Yeah, I think final score of 18-14 sounds good, and I'll take the LSU victory.

You do realize that A&M had another drive in the 2nd quarter where they marched down the field and threw a pick at the 3 yard line, right?

So the fact that LSU was #7 in interceptions (4th in P4) isn’t part of your evaluation of the strength of the defense?

And he did that better than most other coordinators against the 6th hardest schedule. 15th in the nation in scoring defense against that schedule is elite.
