Think about the opportunity. There is likely going to be no conviction...or even prosecution. There are no Title IX administrative issues. There are no NCAA violations. And there is (presumably) no large buyout to pay his former school. You may have one of the 5-10 best coaches sitting there as essentially an unrestricted free agent. The ONLY question you have as a school/AD is do you have the stomach to accept the internal and external negative backlash?

youre an idiot if you dont... its nothing but time..

Chis Beard will without a doubt be the next basketball coach at LSWHO

CMM will be axed after next season because as bad as LSWHO is right now it will be much worse next year

That never happened. Saban nearly left Alabama after 2013. But it was not for Texas. It was ESPN he met with multiple times.

I’m confused on the confusion regarding domestic violence in Texas. It is not up to the victim whether or not to press charges.. that is a decision made by the state. I highly doubt that the Texas law system wants to appear to take it easy on high ranking public school employees. I could be wrong in my assessment of the Texas law system but if I was a betting man I would bet that Mr. Beard faces consequences

You are correct in that it is the DA's decision whether or not to pursue the criminal charges or dismiss the matter. However, Beard's wife has already issued a statement saying he did not strangle her and that Beard was acting in self-defense with her being the initiator of the physical confrontation. That, of course, may or may not be accurate. But given she was the only witness to the event and it appears she would not be a favorable witness for the prosecution, the DA likely would choose to dismiss the charges because he feels he does not have enough evidence to convict Beard. This happens quite often in domestic dispute situations all over the country. The victim doesn't want the DA to pursue the charges and is clearly not going to provide testimony/evidence likely to result in a conviction....so the charges are dismissed.

Well someone said it happened because he was arrested… once it’s been reported to the police it’s out of the victims hands in Texas. You really think she’s going to risk perjury on this?

how are they going to prove her wrong? There would need to be other witnesses or other stong compelling evidence.

Exactly.

The DA has an obligation to only prosecute cases he believes he has enough evidence to convict. Without the fiancé’s testimony a conviction would be unlikely. And the DA would have to prove she lied.

She is saying he acted in self defense. That may not be true, or just partly true. But she was the only witness to the event, so it would be very difficult to prove he didn’t act in self defense if that is what the witness is saying

I don't think anyone said they were (although it would be great). It was just a general question. The guy is a great coach who, but for this incident, wouldn't be available and, potentially, may have never been available considering he was coaching at his alma mater.

Now he is an unrestricted free agent and maybe the closest thing to a "sure thing" in terms of tremendous success (knowing nothing is 100% guarantee) with the only impediment being a school's/AD's willingness to live with initial negative backlash if hired. Someone is going to hire a GREAT coach. The only question is who and when that someone will be bold enough to do it?
