If Kirby Smart is good enough for bama to seriously consider, why isn't he good enough for Texas to seriously consider? And what would be the impact of Smart leaving bama?

1. Because he has no head coaching experience.

2. Because he's already familiar with the Bama program and is assumed to be capable of continuing the momentum of that program as best as anyone else.

Because he's been at Bama for many years so people know what he's like and have formed an opinion on whether he would be a good HC or not.

Texas on the other hand would have to take people word for it which they wouldn't do.

This is exactly the same logic I have used when saying Smart would be a terrible hire. Alabama is a top 5 job. We need to hire a top 5 coach, not an unproven coordinator who has yet to be offered a job at a major BCS program. His familiarity with and loyalty to the Alabama program play a factor, but he should be a backup option, not an A list candidate when that time comes.

I agree with your line of reasoning completely. He should be the 4th or 5th option if Saban leaves Bama.

If Saban leaves, you make Mark Dantonio tell you no before you do anything else. Perfect guy for the job IMO.

Why would a big time program hire Kirby Smart when the opinion is Saban is a defensive genius and control freak? It makes me wonder what Smart really is in charge of and if Saban makes him look way better than some people think.

You're an idiot if you don't think Alabama is one of the top jobs in college football.

Yeah.. It so great that you went through Dubose, Francione, Price, Shula and a rejection from Rich Rod to eventually get to Saban..

There is no way that either school turns the program over to a guy with no experience.

Every major program has went through some pit of Hell. Texas, Ohio State, and USC went 30 years between titles. Oklahoma and LSU had the 1990s. It's just the cyclical nature of the game.

And every one of those coaches save Price won 10 games at Alabama. Dubose won the SEC. Fran won the west but couldn't represent because of sanctions. So yeah, Bama is a top job.
