I don't get the Aranda talk. What makes you think he'd be a good HC? He could be a defensive savant and still run a program into ground as HC.

While that's true i'd rather take that chance on him as opposed to someone who actually has run a program into the ground.

This.

Clearly we should go after Jimbo and Herman. Both are very successful coordinators that are proven winners as head coaches.

But Aranda should be above O. With Aranda at least you know he's incredibly intelligent and can mastefully run a defense. He has been an elite DC in several conferences with several regions of the country. He is also a good recruiter and his players love him, so its not like he's some anti-social weirdo savant that doesn't talk to people or players.

The only things we know about O are that he's a good DL coach, a great recruiter, a good interim HC for very talented teams he didn't build, and one of the worst full time head coaches in SEC history. He not only was worse than his successor and predecessor at Ole Miss, he got worse every year he was there. His 3rd year, when that program was fully his with his players and coaches, they went 0-8 in the SEC.

You're a player on the LSU football team. Is there a rumor your coach will leave? Hell NO !!! He is fired. Is there a rumor the OC may leave? Hell NO !!! He's fired too. The admin appoints the D-line coach as head coach. Do you know who the coach will be next year? Hell No. But you're positive the HC who recruited and coached you for your whole college career will NOT be there? HELL YES

How can the LSU player's possibly be motivated enough to go out and not only win 3 games, but set 3 offensive records and outscore opponents 73-7 during the second half?

I'm just glad there weren't any horrible rumors about a coaching change at LSU and they didn't have to face Navy, Tulsa and SMU. That would have been detrimental to the LSU Psyche.

Herman had coached for 1 season and four games before his team went to shite. Losing to SMU and struggling against Tulsa and UCF (who didnt' win 1 game last year) kind of makes me wonder what he has proven. The only thing I can come up with is that he has proven he can be a one-year-wonder with another's coaches players.

He is not proven enough to be the head coach at LSU. He better get his shite together or he will be lucky to have a job at Houston after next season.

Houston fired their last coach for having two back-to-back 8-5 seasons. The way Herman is trending right now. He will be lucky to have a winning season next year. Especially since he will have even fewer of the previous staff's players remaining on the team.

you are the same people claiming Miles is a "lock" for a major position.

It's insane.

Miles certainly has more of a chance at a major position than O

that isn't even debatable

Oh, replying to myself here instead of editing, Herman has lost 2 of his last 4 games and his team has looked like shite while doing it. If he does continue to trend down - people will have to acknowledge he did it with a Houston team that at one time was ranked #6 in the country. It's not like he did it at Ole Miss. This is a decent Houston team that he could possibly be running into the ground.

wow. the revisionist history on this board.

ole miss hasnt won the SEC since 1963. theyre a founding member and have only won it 6 times total, since 1932.

Orgeron may have returned Ole Miss to the ground but he didnt run it there, thats where they've been for 50 years.

The thing that would worry me about Orgeron is that he has always been surrounded by unreal talent (Miami, USC, LSU, Tennessee). Hell, even the teams he was on at Syracuse were stacked.

He hasn't really worked his ways through smaller programs and mid-majors. I don't think you could plop him in Laramie, Wyoming and win like Craig Bohl or Boise, Idaho like Peterson did.

That said, I think Orgeron could win at some mid-majors in certain southern regions such as Texas, Florida, and North Carolina. Certain schools that are close to talent and easier to recruit like South Florida, East Carolina, Central Florida, Houston, SMU, etc.

the coaches before and after Orgeron were at least competitive

Orgeron's Ole Miss teams were the worst OM teams in a long time

They went to five bowl games in the 7 years before O and won 5 of them..They then won three SEC games total in O's three years as HC..then as soon as he was gone, they won back to back Cotton Bowls the next two years.

I'm just curious? He took over a 4 win Ole Miss team. So, obviously they sucked. What was the QB situation when he was there? I remember he had to go JUCO and get that Tennessee kid. That leads me to believe the roster was abysmal at QB when he got there.

For someone (wasn't it Houston Nutt?) to step in and immediately have success in the SEC would show to a talented roster, no?
