Not gonna lie, at the moment I'm more excited about this than I am who will be hired. Because now I know it will at least be a good coach.

But who does Oregon hire?

That's probably the best stance to take, because at worst you're expecting and prepared for the worst and if thing go well you're pleasantly surprised or even maybe thrilled.

But where's the fun in that?? Lol

Down vote me all you want. But, tell me you're not thinking it too.

I'm on the fence.

I'm thinking either LSU has done the job properly and unveils a new elite coach in 7-10 days, or they botch the hell out of it and the whole thing falls apart.

Here's the key caveat: LSU is still a destination job. You can win a lot of games as the head coach of LSU. Ambitious coaches will always look at a job like this and say, "Why the hell not?"

As long as Louisiana produces a ton of talent and no other school is there to grab it, LSU will be in a position to get really good coaches.

Yeah, I know. It is depressing. Full blown catastrophe syndrome now. Sorry.

I love LSU, but I have ZERO confidence in Alleva and the admin not to completely screw this up.

I really hope I'm wrong.

Hell get 8 mill from another legit team.

Bet he won't. He is not the "hot commodity" you all believe him to be and you damn sure don't pay that kind of money to someone who has never proven himself at a top tier program. Running a program at Houston is NOTHING like running one at Texas or LSU.

Oh sure. LSU is great. No question.

I'm talking about the AD and Admin.

Decidedly "not great."

Look at our last two basketball coaches.

Anyway, I hope it works out great. I'm just saying that we could be on the brink of complete disaster.

Just like any other day you get out of bed, my friend.

agreed, whoever does get Herman it'll be for less than what we're supposedly offering Jimbo.

I agree LSU will be fine either way.

That said, if we don't have a coach by next Mon/Tues, I feel confident in saying that we are officially in ... whatever you want to call it - Plan B/Tier2/scramble mode.

I'm out of the loop today. Outside of media articles naming a date (a week or two) for the hire, is there any evidence of a hire happening then? Or is it just more speculation.

He's had two decent years at Houston. Get over your errection for Herman already. If it lasts more than 4 hours, you are supposed to contact your doctor.

My sources told me the Russians are bombing on Thanksgiving, so there won't be a coaching search.

(More speculation: Jimbo is #1 and an offer has been made, per Random)

If we are willing to throw jimbo x amount of dollars I would hope we attempt to throw the same amount at Herman

Because of who he is.

He's had two excellent years, and he's gotten that program to punch well above its weight.

IIRC, the "Saban / Miles" criteria for LSU hiring a coach was simple: ability to upset superior teams, ability to recruit as a 'second-fiddle' school, and no prior disqualifying issues.

Herman fits the "LSU" model.

I'm just getting the vibe everyone wants to be the first and correct "source" for 15 mins of fame.

Whatever. You don't have to be an insider to know that. And it will still be a 9-3 hire. LSU fans fired a coach who was a three-loss coach every year. Now we ache to hire the same guy. I think they just like the way "Jimbo" rolls off their tongues. Jimbo. Jimbo. Say it enough and you can believe it.

OK, I am no virgin to down votes, but if Herman goes to Texas, and from all media reports this is already a done deal, and if Fisher is just using this to get a better deal at Fla. St., which Sexton is famous for doing, than what do we do next? Give me the next name.
